On line dating

Recommended Posts

Okay..... It's been 5 years since becoming single at 60 something and so several months back I popped onto the "Our time" online dating svc to meet oldish women like myself. For starts there are a load of them and many of them are just as nuts about music, that's the upside. And there's not too many of them that's real easy on the eyes. Those that are............ seem to be looking for some derivation of Bill Gates. Then there is a load of religious ladies. Some are devoutly religious, approaching pious. Others need to be religious so they can atone for their weekly sins. But, it is really tough. Today I meet a gal for coffee. I've invested umpteen hours of online time working the deal. The profiles look good, she's cute, etc..... MInd you, I just have a picture of me and my 2 dogs on the website. We have discussed the dogs on many occasions. The dogs are no surprise. Guess who's violently allergic to dogs? She pets my dogs through an open car window for 3 minutes and bango. Eye's swelled up to near shut, sneezing, itching, everything. She had to have a friend come and get her. She knew it all along.

I have gotten many bottles of good wine out of this adventure, plus a few giggles and a few oohs and ahs. I even met a gal I attended high school with and we're states away from that place. Onward and upward. Pray for me.

That's to funny. Have to say, I'm glad its not me. My solution...if these women are going to Sin anyway, you should be a good man and contribute to that cause.

That's when I'd fess up that I'm not really a billionaire astronaut and part-time porn star who loves poetry and long walks on the beach.

I met my wife online in 2006. She was teaching English at a university in China. Traveled to the Philippines the following February to meet her and her family. We worked through an annulment process (two actually, church and state), worked through the visa process and she arrived here in 2010, and we were married. One of the best things to happen in my life. We are 12 years apart, but you wouldn't know it. We have five kids between us and seven grandkids now.

pics... when I traveled to meet her in Hong Kong, and last Feb. at Ted's Montana Grill in Atlanta.

Just remember the half plus 8 rule. Divide your age in half and add 8 years. That is the youngest lady you should date according to social acceptability. The problem with that is that if you marry a lady exactly half plus 8, she will fall below that threshold in 2 years or less. I suppose that means you can only stay married 2 years. :D

Bruce,

Way to go! She is beautiful and looks very intelligent. Most importantly, she is making you happy and vice-versa.

Did she know you were on the ten most wanted list? ;)

Oscar seems like a... unique name for an oldish woman.

They sorta figure it out when they see that you're unable to look at them for very long. It is astonishing what makeup and photoshop can do for a picture. Seriously though, it is pretty sad to see how many people my age are single and mostly from divorces. I'd wager that 90+ % of these ladies do not stand any chance of finding a match, and from what the ladies say, the men who are looking are not in much better circumstances. It is like an island of broken toys........ and for the time being I guess I'm one of em. I am somewhat limited in range (with all due respect to Bruce) and I do not live very close to a massive urban area. It is - what it is.

The Divorce Statistics are quite high, im not surprised at all. Most single people at 60 would have already been married at some point, and if they are single today, its likely a divorce of some kind. With that said, there is someone out there for everyone, keep looking.

Its interesting to think about how peoples standards and expectations change as they age.

She did know, and although not really interested, has helped me out.

Oscar - I'm now 64 and she is 52. I will admit that I had quite a few folks asking why I didn't find someone closer to home. My first trip to the Philippines was the first time I had traveled outside the U.S.

Since that first trip, I traveled to visit her in China (twice), which included visiting Hong Kong and Macau, which are now under Chinese rule, although they were colonies in the past. We met in Ireland once, as she has a sister and brother-in-law who work and live there. Plus the Philippines a couple more times.

Y'all should get out more! Asia is much cheaper to visit than europe. The plane tickets aren't a whole lot much, so you still come out ahead.
