My first table saw for the shop....

Recommended Posts

I purchased (online) my first table saw for my shop.

It is a DeWalt, DWE7491RS 10 in. 15 Amp Site-Pro Compact Jobsite Table Saw with Rolling Stand.

It should arrive 12/19, with free shipping.

I suppose I'll have to do some projects that I've been putting off..... Well, bring them on.... lol...

It is amazing all the things you can do with a good table saw. Cutting 4x8 sheets of plywood, using a dado blade, and if you go all out, things like tenons, box joints, and mitres.

I was giddy when I bought my first table saw a couple years ago. It sometimes doubles as a taller work surface.

Enjoy!

NIce. I bought a used table saw 20 years ago and it is still going strong (just used it this weekend).

Be real careful, or better yet, do not cut full sized sheets on it. They are too bulky and never seem to go right, and dangerous to say the least. You need a really big saw table to do that correctly. I use a circualr saw and a good straight edge to cut big sheets. I'd like to get a full size panel saw for big sheets, but no room unti I can build a separate shop in the yard.

Carl, I was waiting for you to jump in.... I'm excited about this saw and expanding what I can do now.

I also just recently purchased a Hatachi Compound Miter Saw.

Let's get to work... lol...

Tablesaw, check, compount miter, check.

Get a good circular saw, a Krieg jig and a router and you are all set. You can do quite a bit with those tools.

One tool that I sprung for and I can't beleive how much I use it is a 14" plainer. Buy rough sawn wood and make it into nice wood for projects. Works great, especially if you find reclaimed wood on Craiggslist. I reused a bunch of Mahogony by running it through the plainer and used it to trim a bunch of things.

BTW, Amazon has their yearly tool discounts right now. $25 off a $100 purchase on many brands. I seem to buy power tools every year around this time.

I also purchased mine by going through ebates and got an additional 10% off.... Nice.

What is ebates?

I am eyeing a few Makita drills right now. Amazon is like "tool porn" this time of year.

Here is a link to ebates....http://www.ebates.com/

This site is a real money saver and it is free. I never shop online without going to ebates first.....

PM me your email and I will put you as a referral.

Done...

Back to tools. i've gone through a few tools along the years but never had a real tool revelation untill I started messing with wood. It's amazing how much difference there is between an average tool and a real quality piece. For me the difference is much greater in wood working than say automotive. plumbing or general construction. My next investment will be in a Festool sliding panel saw. i can't wait. Anyone who's read any of my sub builds has seen what I've used in the past. Clamps, guides and a circular saw. Those days are over. I'm really stoked as I'll start a new build around the first of the year.

My last quality piecs was a Hitachi compound sliding miter saw. What an absolutely beautiful tool. I went from a maple miter box to a Craftsman compound miter saw to the

Hhitachi. Each time there was a light year improvement in ease of use and quality of finished product. My wife calls me a tool ***** and i wear the lable proudly.

Boxx, take some pics when you get it. i'll be green with envy. i gave my entry level table saw to my son-in law and am currently table saw-less.

Will do Carl....

I'm waiting on Fedex and it is supposed to be here tonight. However, our weather is going south now (29 degrees with freezing rain). I hope he can still make it to the house....

I have recently been talking to a cabinet builder buddy of mine about saw blades. One thing he claims is a good quality blade, my next blade purchase will be one of these.

along with one of these, he at first claimed it didn't seem like it made much difference but once he put it on his radial arm saw he noticed it missing from his table saw.

Carl I am with you on the miter saw, I have been using a 20 year old black an decker, my next will either be the Kobalt sliding compound miter saw, or maybe even a radial arm saw if funds will allow.

I think good tools know matter what trade you do are important, I have been a mechanic for the last 12 years I and there are some cheap tools I have owned but still own my good quality tools. For the hobbyist I think most can get by with Craftsman, I am not saying you have to buy Snap on but by something that is good quality.
