My daughter is 1200 miles away. My wife makes it out there 2-3 times a year. We fly her home for the holidays.

For the 4.5 years my daughter was working in Seattle it was 2,150 miles away. I know just how far that is as I flew up and drove back with her. Flew 4 hours, hopped in her car about noon on a Friday, drove straight through (motels at night) and made it back Sunday evening. Great roadtrip. Stopped at Little Big Horn, Mount Rushmore, a casino in Kansas City and on home. Didn't eat in chain restaurants either, all local stuff along the way.

Our youngest daughter lived in N Louisiana 5 hours away, I use to tell her she was my favorite since she lived the furthest,  she knew I was kidding.

After she graduated last year she moved back down here and started teaching. It's nice to have here back down here again and she seems happier, we see her much more now. She got a job at a school close to where our oldest daughter lives about 20 minutes from here and moved in with her since they have a few extra bedrooms and it's easier for work. She got a newer car and is saving and looking at different areas for a house. She went to school for teaching with an emphasis on handicapped kids, it's what she wanted to do. Although her present job is mixed students, some handicapped some not, I guess they mix them now depending on the disability ?

What had you moving to FL from NY at 18? The Southern weather? :)

We lived in Daytona for 4 years when I was in elementary school.  I loved the beach and the town.  One of my brothers lived in Daytona at the time so I moved in with him until I got my feet on the ground.   I spent countless hours on the beach when I lived there.

I look closely and realise... this is a completely nude women in this advertisement.

If you look at the bathing suit, it's not actually a bathing suit at all... it's nothing more than a white space matte in the shape of a bathing suit.

Was walking up to a pond last week in Arkansas and there were a few Green Mallards in it, when I got about 100' feet away they took off and I was able to get 2 pics. Not perfect but was lucky to get anything.

300mm,  it was f7.1 at  1/3200sec, I should have had higher shutter speed and less f stop ? What would have been better ? pilgrimage_2018-73.JPG

What do you mean by better?

If you meant sharper, I doubt that more than 1/3200 shutter would make any difference. 300mm is a long shoot, vibration reduction should have nothing to do or help with moving object, at least that is my knowledge about that.

I suppose that you did not used the tripod. That could make things better regarding sharpness. Autofocus is another thing to consider. Just a few things...

Parlophone is correct. 1/3200 is standing tall on the picture end. I would suggest the slight lack of sharpness is most likely due to your lens not quite finding the Mallard with the autofocus. This is very common with smaller flying objects at a distance. Also a monopod or such to keep your end of the photograph more steady a + too. They are beautiful birds.

That's what I was thinking, either I was moving and maby I didn't get a good focus point. It happened really fast so I would guess the biggest problem was me not keeping up with the bird or just moving to much. I thought the 1/3200 was ok but wasn't sure since faster would have made me go less DOF which may have hurt focus also. It was a hill and I was walking down it toward the pond not even ready when they took off, that was my first mistake.

I am not quite use to this focus on this camera yet, it has 51 points but I read it's better to use a good bit less or it can lock on something way off at a distance, I like a single point but I probably would have not had that correct either with a moving bird, I need to play with this more and figure out what works best for me.  I need much more practice and a little luck with fast moving things.

The more I think about it the more I think me moving was the biggest problem.

Your right no monopod and VR wouldn't / didn't help in this case.

Thanks
