What a let down

Awhile back I was looking for a 3 or 5 channel amp. I wanted a 200 watts amp and purchased an Adcom GFA 5503 off Ebay. Well the thing arrived DOA. I am not sure if it is seller fraud or major damage from shipping. I heard things rolling around in it and, no it was not playing Rock N Roll, lol. The seller said it was in A1 condition and had been kept in a rack. Back it goes! Look at the packing job, just a few beads inside the box. Bent heat sinks and this amp looks old and not well kept to say the least.

Yep, looks like fresh shipping damage. I once bought an amp form forum member Rusty Melton. It took me about 20 minutes with a box cutter to actually get to the amp. I think the amp could have survived a drop off my roof. It was padded, boxed, padded and boxed again. He did a great job.

Derrick,

I am very sorry to hear about this tragedy. Crazy bad packing job.

One of my Acurus amps arrived just like that but I was lucky, no damage or scratches of any kind. The shipping angels must have escorted it to my home.

I hope you don't have any hastle getting a refund.

Wow! That is the worst pack job I've ever seen. You couldn't pack that box with enough peanuts to protect it. They all settle to the bottom during shipping. Peanuts are a filler, not protection. Best wishes getting it resolved.

This is how you pack an amp.

I think it's funny that he thought the peanuts would actually do something.

To be honest, the heat sink damage doesn't look like it was caused by the shipping. I mean, there's metal missing off the damn fins. That would have come right through the box.

Dean,

Look at the box, I think it did come through.

What a bummer. You think when you buy yourself a Christmas gift you wouldn't have to return it.

When you buy anything, and I mean anything, try to arrange a phone conversation. Discuss packing. If it doesn't arrive in the way agreed upon in the conversation, don't even bother pulling it out and plugging it in -- just send it back.

I hate eBay, I refuse to even bother with it.

I have not heard the Adcom amps but, I have not read bad things about them. I guess I will get a chance to go thru the purchasing process agin. I have previouly said I am not even sure if I need it. I just like amps. I guess I will be joining the Right This Minute thread early tonight. Well I will feel better tomorrow: my family is taking me out for a 12 course dinner in Chicago. Maybe I should spend that on the amp, lol.
