6sigma
With fond memories of my college years in the 1970's, I'd like to put together a Heresy III system in 2014. Can I build a 2-channel stereo consisting of an integrated amp, DAC and a pair of Heresy IIIs for $3000? If so, what amp do you suggest? Thanks. Sancho Panza
Welcome to the Klipsch Forum! Love my Heresy IIs; I think you can get a good deal on IIIs; there are some dealers, I've heard who will work with you on price, if you are in the lower States. hugeroost
well the Hlll`s will set you back nearly 2k, that leaves a grand with which I would get pioneer silver integraded, I love that stuff and see great deals on ebay, seems it don't bring near the money as the receivers....Roost
wuzzzer
You can find a gently loved pair of H3s for around $1000 on eBay, craigslist, etc. I'd go that route to free up more $$ for the electronics side of things.
John Chi-town
Welcome to the forum! Heresy III are great speakers, but you may want to think about a pair of used Chorus or forte. Heresy's regardless if a 1, II, or III series requires a subwoofer integrated into the system in order to get proper bass response INMHO. You can purchase a nice pair of either in the $500-700 range and you will never think that you are lacking bass response or require a sub. The forte/chorus line almost canibalized the Cornwall while in production. You can change out the diaphragms in either to titanium in both the tweeter and squawker drivers. You will end up with a fuller sound for less dollars, which will enable you to put more $$$ toward other gear. Just do yourself a favor and see if you cant audition a pair before pulling the trigger on the H3. You may very well change your mind. DavidF
It's all digital these days. Perhaps revinventing the idea of a little Advent 300 receiver and Heresy of the 70s, Peachtree has something that might fit the neeed.... http://www.peachtreeaudio.com/decco65-amplifier-with-dac.html
Scrappydue
+1 for peachtree. And I vote find a mint used set of Cornwalls. I had some heresy's. Loved em. Sold em. Tried the Cornwalls. Same sound to my ears but with a lot more bass. Which is necessary. Otherwise a sub is needed. You can find extremely mint Cornwalls for 1000-1200. That leaves 1500-2000$ for electronics. 6sigma
Thanks to each of you for your tips....and Merry Christmas. The comparisons will begin soon among Heresys or Fortes or Choruses or Cornwalls. I hope to visit Klipsch in Hope early this next year as well. Again, many thanks. iwander
The hereseys may be bass shy if not properly placed. Cornwalls are great if you have the space. They are big. Used should be around $700-$1000. Have a look at Musical Paradise MP-301 tube amp. Excellent amp for Klipsch heritage speakers. It is an integrated amp with 2 analog inputs. No phono. What will your source units be? CD's, vinyl. Do you need a DAC. There are many SACD/universal players around $1200 new with excellent DACs built in. Oppo BDP-105. Cambridge Audio Azur 752BD. Both of those have digital inputs which can use the internal DACs. That leaves you with $1000 to spend. Turntable with phono pre-amp. Good luck. The Dude
http://www.klipsch.com/heresy-iii-floorstanding-speaker/details Pair would put you at 1700.00 looks like free shipping. I don't think any of these are authorized dealers but may save you some. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Heresy-III-Loudspeakers-BRAND-NEW-Pair-/291041973692?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item43c37415bc http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Heresy-III-Walnut-NEW-AUTHORIZED-DEALER-5YR-Warranty-Priced-Each-/111222212134?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item19e55c4626 I would go with the Lacewood, But yes like others are saying you can go used and get better deals on older Cornwalls, or Chorus. Good luck with the search, and welcome to the forum.
