Duratex?

I used Duratex on my Lab 12 build, and it turned out nice.

Tell us more about your LAB 12 horns. I wanted to build a pair of those and had the boards pre-cut for the original, then I found the V3.0 from Brad Litz. How many did you build and how are using them?

I got the idea from another website. I don't seem to be able to post the link. I built one so far here https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/140483-my-lab-12-tapped-horn-build/ I don't know about the V3.0 from Brad Litz except to say that i don't think they are the same. My one so far kicks some serious azz. I will build another and stack it under the tv with the first one. Bill

Although not a sub, this boombox is my test mule for the Duratex that will be used to finish the 25 Hz tapped horn subs (see Carl's thread: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/138019-25hz-tapped-horn/page-6 ) I'm building, hence posting in this forum. Photos at http://s928.photobuc...chy Tapped Horn

Due to the many holes filled with Bondo, seams oozing Titebond or Loctite PL, etc., I primed everything with a couple coats of grey primer, using a brush and roller. A few more coats were applied after this photo was taken.

After sanding the primer, I rolled on 2 coats of flat black (not shown).

After sanding the flat black, I applied the first coat of Duratex using the small texture roller supplied with the "trial kit."

As the photos show, a second coat was needed.

Note the viscosity of the lumpy Durtatex in the jar. It's surprisingly thick. Application with the roller supplied was easy.

After the second coat, the finish turned out great. The texture is just the industrial look I was going for.

I'm so pleased I ordered a gallon of Duratex to do a pairt of tapped horn subs and four more cabinets the size of the boombox shown.

The "iPod" dock on steroids contains a Sure chip amp and a Sure Bluetooth adapter. For details, go to: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/144722-bluetooth-ipod-dock-on-steroids/

You can't hear it, but Give Me Shelter was playing from the iPad to the box.

Now that is one hell-of-an industrial I-pod dock. Good looking work. How does is sound?

Thanks all for the kind words.

My brother paid it the ultimate (in his mind) compliment when he said he prefers it to his Bose iPod dock. The big sound from a little box impresses the audio challenged and audiophools alike.

The bass available from those 2 Rat Shack drivers is impressive.
