BobThe
My Son is in the same boat here. A few years ago he saved his pennies and bought these M40's. The noise cancellation quit working, but the headphones kept working. Then the ear cups on both sides have split. He emailed support asking if there were replacement parts and where he could find them and was told the same thing...that they were unavailable. Now on the flip side of the coin, I personally own a pair of Sennheiser HD 595's and have owned them for probably 8 years. They still sound great, but here is the thing, the felt ear cups on them have split just the same as my Son's Klipsch M40's. The only difference is, I can get replacement ear cup pads EVERYWHERE even though these Sennheiser's are at least 5 years older than these M40's. As I recall, they both cost about the same. My Son has since bought a pair of Bose earbuds and I will be buying him Sennheiser HD 598's. I know they will work for a long time and I can get replacement parts if needed. Klipsch - Please understand, once these are out of warranty, we don't mind paying up to fix a wear item. The difference here between Klipsch and Sennheiser is Sennheiser knows that taking reasonable care of customers makes for return customers. Unless I get an email stating that you are going to make replacement ear cups available, I will be purchasing Sennheiser's or others in the future and I will never purchase another Klipsch product. This experience taught me that product reviews are not the end of the research that is needed. I need to research replacement parts and customer satisfaction with the company. This issue speaks volumes as to Klipsch as a company. Klipsch doing a fellow Hoosier wrong... I'd love to spend money on a company headquartered in my back yard, but that doesn't look like it will happen again.

G Cheung
I am in Hong Kong. Same problems found in the M40 ear cups. What can I do? Thanks!
Bon.Zo
I've done this on multiple sets of headphones with leather and fake pads. If it sounds stupid or crazy, you're probably normal. Get a pair of (clean) socks. Choose a fabric you like. I don't perspire, I precipitate, so I like something that wicks and is soft (sensitive skin). Colors and patterns are a bonus. Cut off the foot. Roll the upper over the donut of the earcup. Trim to fit. You can use rubber cement (protect your leather first with a coat of wax) if you wish to keep things smooth and taught. Snap the cups back on. You now have a pair of more comfortable headphones. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
Silence Dogood253
Yup, Same thing here. Been a BIGG Klipsch fan for many many years loved their corner horns. Got me through college. Buying the M40's for my long plane journeys was a no brainer ... loved them. WAS EXTREAMLY Offended by the extreme lack of Klipsch customer service. But alas I digress. For those of you out there with your foam showing. I returned my M40's to serviceable condition in 30 minutes with a curved needle and thread. Good As new? Maybe not in appearance but I am back in business (there had separated all the way around). As for the non existence, could care less for Klipsch customers after the sale, rude nature of Klipsch CUSTOMER SERVICE I am not sure that the curved needle and thread will help there. VCL
Hey here was my solution to the absence of Klipsch M40 ear cup. Whichm to me is an unacceptable problem. Dimensiosn are the closest I found to the original, they are a low cost solution and they to the job. They aren't memory foam but still comfy and for the price it's a deal. All you have to do is to cut the plastic disk that hold the original ear cups on the headphone from the original ear cup and glue it on each of these new ear cup. If you're a little handy it won't be a problem. Good luck. roddog63
Same issue here. I have been a long time Klipsch customer. Every speaker in my home is Klipsch. These M40s weren't cheap, but like others the noise cancelling stopped working early on, the volume button is taped down so I can have sound. Now the torn ear cups and resulting decimation of the foam have made them useless. I have put up with a lot, yeah they sound great, but this is a lot of money for what amounts to junk otherwise. I too had a rude customer service experience when I called about the ear cups. I called about PURCHASING replacement cups. I was told I should have contacted customer service about this while they were in warranty and before they stopped making the headphones. The fact that the ear cups didn't fail while under warranty didn't matter to the customer no service rep, it was my fault. She continued on with the rudeness and told me my only solution was to buy the new model. I told her that wasn't my only solution, I have many that don't include a Klipsch product. As a result I will never buy another Klipsch product. I don't need to be treated horribly after giving Klipsch my hard earned money.
Fomite
I have been a long time owner of all things Klipsch. My biggest disappointment, other than the occasional ear bud failures which were replaced by Klipsch, is the earpieces in the M40 headphones. My noise cancelling still works, but the cover on the ear pieces are completely shredded. In looking at this forum, I see one person offering a solution via a replacement part sold on ebay, but that link is not active. So has anyone found a current replacement option? If you search eBay "ear pad replacement m40" you get several links to the above mentioned parts, not sure how good they work? but look to be fairly cheap and maybe worth a try, good luck. brad0112
I also have the same issue, both ear cubs popped apart at the same time. I got a pair of those replacement ones and they don't have that "ring" that the originals have that mount to the headphones. I hadn't thought about cutting that ring off, I may give that a try. Dball613
After reading countless threads, I'm both saddened and relieved to know I'm not the only one having an issue with my M40's. I purchased mine while deployed to Afghanistan and love the sound but as everyone else has stated the ear pads that Klipsch used on the M40's is absolute crap. I tried multiple times to find an adequate replacement since Klipsch doesnt seem to care about M40 owners and just wants to push out new products without honoring their older ones. Since I was unable to obtain a satisfactory response from Klipsch HQ or the many customer service specialists I was put in touch with, I decided to detach myself from Klipsch and their products. I have since purchased various Bowers & Wilkins headphones and the one time I contacted customer service my problem was resolved before I ever got off the phone with them, to include the confirmation email showing that my new part was on its way. Igotawildwildlife
Could someone explain how to change the ear pads on a Klipsch M40 headphone. I purchased some new ear pads online and don't want to do any more damage than has already been done. GarfVanner
Been reading through this thread and I am also aghast at the fact that such an established well known company would not stand behind their product better...at the VERY least to supply replacement ear pieces. I have 2 sets of the m40's and both have split our ear cups but both have functioning noise cancelling at the moment. Hugh fan of Klipsch and also not happy with this one product, our 7.1 surround is all Klipsch including a pair of Khorns for the mains....but giving serious second thoughts to the headphone offering from Klipsch....starting to search Amazon for replacement third party ear cups and they are not a ton of money which brings me back to - for a small investment on Klipsch's part they could easily avoid all tis bad press and reputation bashing! Ole Dollar
After leaving the M40's with bad ear cushions in the closet for two years I was searching NewEgg for a new set of in ear headphones and up popped a replacement M40 ear cushion from somewhere in China. I ordered a pair in the hope that I would be able to listen to my favorite headphones again. It took almost two weeks to arrive and while they don't have the ring that locks them onto the headphones they do slip fit over the drivers. So now my M40's are back in service, had forgotten how much I really liked them. So far the cushions have stayed on but as they are new I can't comment on longevity. Really glad I did not throw them away as my wife tried to many times, I can't part with anything Klipsch.
