My Khorns are new, not used and just new for me.. Accuphase is really a good amplifier, but some times the sound is too bright, or there are harshness problems.. The last one is probably not a problem of the amplifier, but a problem of the Khorns. People say that the tweeter, drivers, and crossovers of Khorns are not of great quality.. Others say that Khorns play their best with tube amplifiers, and specially with SET. That's why I am asking what tubes are good. The small 2A3 or 300B, or the bigger 211 or 824. Perhaps KT120 as well. Mac could be good as well, the MC275.. Never had the chance to listen to this amp.. Well ... Under stand the despite the great engineering in the KH The drivers are the cheapest thing that PwK could source I have replaced my Eminence woof with a JBL, and run an Altec 511 horn on top Basically, it's Klipsch Wood. 😀

Finally I bought a Viva Audio Solista MKIII integrated amplifier, using 845 tubes. really nice with my Khorns. What speaker cables do you suggest? I suppose good quality copper cables. Any suggestions? I've been told that Synergistic Research element is good. What do you think? As I have posted many times, I use #10 thhn building wire I have found no difference in all this f the esoteric solutions, other that the wire may somewhat attenuate treble freqs

The Altec 511’s look cool , but the ones I’ve heard were a big disappointment . 👎 Edited January 10, 2022 by Tom05 1
the real Duke Spinner
The 511, compared to the Atlas driver, and the "squeaker' tweeter. You need new Ears. 🙄 1

The EV tweeter was the best bang for the buck at the time, but that was 60 years ago. 70 years for the Altec with ANEMIC response above 10 Khz. without EQ. Actually It would be interesting to listen to your speakers, I have read that some people have gotten good results with the 511. But it might be awkward if I didn’t like them 🤓
henry4841
The Altec is one of the few 1" driver horns available. I have one on another system for mids only and it sounds great with a big soundstage.
