Sometimes we make our own history: In the late 1980's I was an Army SSG stationed in DC. Me, my wife, three year old twins and a fresh baby daughter. Times of high inflation and stagnant wages. I went to get a punkin for Halloween. I headed for the farms, as punkin were cheaper there. After getting my punkin I noted three guys unloading a stakebed full of punkins. They were putting a few to the side, and when I asked of them, was told "Those have cracks, we can't sell them" They gave me four bigguns and I figured to boil, mash, and freeze them for baby food. Ended up with too much mash for the freezer, so I made pie. My wife loved it, so it became a habit, then a tradition. At its height, in the early 2000's I was making a gross per season (Halloween thru New Years) for friends and local charities. Now, due to a change of domicile when Intel transferred me, I am down to just a few dozen. But when I visit the Springs in season, the demand is high. I have two pies of the dozen left and those are spoken for. Sure Cuban coffe e would work in a pinch yet, a cup not unique to Florida, an expression use locally, or by me to denote a fairly serious strength, some refer to size, to get me from let us say Tallahassee to Miami(500). Just for the sake of clarity. Customers of Spanish heritage would offer me cup from or made in the style of Cub, Puerto Rico , Carribean region that were superb in taste and quality. Rather serious too, I suppose. In any case Folgers Columbo Gourmet this AM. Since Nan prefers making coffee strong, I tend to pickup the darker roasts. This time of year, I would find a Pumpkin Spice Latte agreeable. Thinking of asking @Tarheel if he received his free Klipsch cap on his 10th anniv. here. Indeed he would be great for the freezer, but believe it or not, he's not legal and it's not the season anymore. That's why he so boldly comes in and eats our potted plants. Thankfully we have plenty in the freezer from the brother in laws hunt this year. We use the ground moose in place of ground beef for just about everything all year long, tacos, spaghetti, etc. Little one is wonderful! He's a month already on Wed. He SLEEPS!!! Going out of town next week for a couple of weeks, remind me when we get back and I can make you something you could hang in your movie room. The only metal plaques we had we gave away at one of the pilgrimages, but they were made to be use like a license plate, they had the 4 holes in them and only had the pie logo on them. I did make me one to hang in the bar outside with a little more than the pie logo on it.
