I agree with mangofirst tomatoes are a great part of summer.  Alas I have quit trying to grow them because of pesky squirrels😑

Thought I would post a pic of the new Jake who at 17 pounds is about a fifth the weight of the Jake in my avatar.  A Norwich Terrier and a rescue.

I'm surprised Jake hasn't given them a good run.

I had ground squirrels, not gopher, ground squirrels. Frank, my cat, was studying the mounds of dirt.  No more mounds of dirt. I think he got them. This is the same cat that catches bats, at night. Don't ask ... I haven't got a clue.  He smart as... if he had opposable thumbs, we would be in sheep dip.

I thought those small dogs were professional lap dogs.

my neighbor when I was a kid, Elmer [Pete] had a dog.

A bunch of the neighbors were gathered in a backyard ... Pete says "Prince, go pee on Jack's leg"

he did and Prince did. I don't remember all the circumstances, but Jack lit UP.

the rest of us thought it was pretty funny.

Been a garden kind of day. Picked sum termaters and 🌶. Diced said veggies, added four diced figs, garlic, onion, and balsamic vinegar. Also a dash of blood orange olive oil, from a local orchard, the Queen Creek Olive Mill.

In a few hours I'll have about a quart uv deliscioso. Me Gusta.

Wow, that sounds great.  So, do I understand this is a sauce?  Would you mind posting the full recipe that you use?

Could be a sauce, could be gravy. Depends what part uv Nooo Yawk yer from, or what part uv Sicily de grand father Iz frum.

I pretty much did. Nothing was measured, but I'll estimate:

3 dozen small tomatoes, diced (been pretty hot, so the termaters are small)

4 figs, diced

2 jalapeños, 2 banana peppers, diced

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 small onion, diced

1 -2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

dash of chipotle powder

simmer to a suitable viscosity.

Mangia.

Note: browned hamburger or sausage may be added to taste about halfway thru the simmer.

oh yeah, 1/2 tsp oregano as well

Afternoon gang..... been alittle while since i posted...

We're doing ok, shops been quite busy but we have been closing at 3:00 cuz of the heat, the past few days the heat index has been in the 100's and just so damn humid.

The BOSS still has her hands full with all of the estate stuff. If you guys remember our eldest daughter was looking after mom till her passing in Jan. She moved out of mom's house a few weeks back into her own apartment. So now we have the house to deal with. Hope to have it all wrapped up by Sept. We got a dumpster delivered to the house last week. Now we have to go through the house and get rid of a lifetime of things. it's really heat breaking. Last weekend was tough on The BOSS and I to was a mess just walking through mom and dad's home that is now just a vacant house.

on a lighter note..... Stoney pissed me off this morning. I was in the reading room and The BOSS bought me in my 1st coffee. she put it on the ledge and few seconds later Stoney jumps on the ledge just to knock the coffee too the floor. A full cup of delicious hot coffee now all over the floor and on my leg😭. Had to mop the floor and jump in the shower lol lol.

Later all... have a great 4th

MKP 🙂

Second night with the new Jake.  Yet to bark.  Went to a pet store and bought some high quality can food and kibble.  He likes both and apparently hasn't had can food in a while.  The foster home was feeding him Beneful  which is junk with dye in my opinion.  The dye often leads to allergy problems (it did with my two labs).  As you know the dye makes the food colorful to be attractive to humans but since dogs are color blind they couldn't give a rat's a**.

LF had bags full of play toys save from her last dog so he is happy.

I've always liked big dogs and mutts while LF likes the little toy dogs.  The Norwich Terrier is a good choice in that he is one of the smallest sporting dogs, originally bred as ratters and to chase fox from their dens but also a lap size dog.

Yea Chuck there's alot of crapp animal food out there... We feed Stoney a Boney Science Diet dry food and Fancy Feast can food. They share one small can a day. We don't over feed.

Congrats on the "new Jake" Very cute😉 ... All of my dad's dogs are rescue dogs.

Do you use Chewy to get dog food? We use Chewy for everything.... even cat litter and toys.

Thanks MKP........I did use Chewy with Big Jake but then I started cooking boiled ham/veggies/tuna/can chicken and within a short while he stopped gnawing on his front legs.  Little Jake will stay on Victor Ultra Pro kibble (81% protein) and Canidae Grain Free Pure (duck and turkey) as long as he does well on it.  It is pricey but he is a little fellow and eats in a week what Big Jake ate in a day.

Those are my Thai peppers.

Looks just like some I have here, but with so many types they could look the same but be different.

This is an odd looking one, a couple peppers were"borrowed" from a casino on the coast a couple years ago, saved the seeds.

They had thousands of plants in a big area that were used for color, minus a few peppers.

It's all new to him, probably after he is with you a little while he will get use to the house as his territory and start barking at anything out of the ordinary.

That would always be hard, but there is no way to avoid it and it's all part of the plan, just never easy, but that's what memories are for.

You don't see this everyday, a warehouse storing whisky barrels collapses, then later the rest of the building fell down. Sazerac is the name out of New Orleans, the building is in louisville KY.

The first part then the whole building, that's alot of barrels. It's going to be a job to cleanup, but just from looking most can be saved i would guess. It did look like a little too much weight for that building ?
