Uh oh!

Rib? @BigStewMan

that thought crossed my mind; but I don't think so.  I seriously broke four ribs when I got ran over by a truck and this doesn't hurt that bad. two days after my accident and I couldn't get out of bed without help to go to the bathroom.  I told my daughter to go to the store and buy me one of those bedside urinals so I didn't have to yell for her in the middle of night to help me out of bed.

that was a trippy time. in addition to the busted ribs, my foot was really hurting. I told them at the hospital and they said it was fine. I told my GP during follow up that it hurt, so she took some X-rays and said it was fine. My niece is an X-ray tech and told me that i need X-rays when standing. so I went back to the doctor and she took more with me standing ... then said, "you have two broken bones in your foot."  sent me to a foot specialist who made a comment about it taking longer to heal because I walked on it too much before I sought treatment. I just shook my head.

getting old is really starting to suck.

over a week ago, I either cracked something or pulled a muscle.  something fell behind my bed and I was leaning over to try to get it ... all of my weight was on my chest as I leaned as far over the bed as I could. I have an adjustable bed and the head was raised and I'm too stupid to lower it and decided to reach harder. after a few moments, I felt a sharp pain--about arm pit height and above the nipple. it hurts more now than it did last week. I held in a sneeze this morning and the violent contracting of the muscles was painful and the pain isn't going away.

we just don't heal as fast as we used to.

epilogue:  after the initial jolt of pain, I lowered the bed and picked up what I'd dropped pretty darn easily.

Sorry Steve, be careful. I know exactly what you mean, I love my job, I'm very good at it, but time isn't on my side. My problem is....I choose to work extremely hard, I make more when I work hard and fast.

Come on man.

Yes it does suck but your not going to get any younger, so think before you do things you could easily do at one point. Because it is harder now and can hurt and will, probably noticed (or will) that your not quite as bendy as you once were, which does not help.

Things change, it even is possible to do something while your sleeping and wake up with a new pain, i'v done it more than once.

Things I have noticed positively, but your younger, it gets more noticeable later.

I was warning my wife about retirement ---

It's a very short hop from not having to do anything to not having anything to do.

@BigStewMan

Sorry to hear you've injured yourself.

Sounds like  cracked/broken/bruised rib/s to me.  An X-ray would give some insight. Just to make sure something more serious isn't...

If it is cracked ribs, not much you or Drs can do about it. Don't cough, hiccup or sneeze. Hope it's not more than that.

The rib area is sensitive, even a pulled muscle or stretched connecting tissue can hurt like hell, feels like they're broke. Have you tried some stretching exercises?

Yes sir and the cartilage under them can be damaged also.

Had that messed up when the idiot blindly pulled out in front of me during five o'clock traffic a couple of years ago. Not as bad as cracked or broken but it will wake you up at night for a few weeks!

D*mn man you've been through it, huh?

I know even a cracked rib hurts to breathe for a couple months, glad it doesn't hurt like that!!

Broken, cracked or bruised, they all hurt like bas***d for 6-8 weeks. I've injured my chest ribs a few+ times

but 3 summers ago I fell backwards, landed on a pointy rock and broke 2 ribs right under my shoulder blade.

About a foot from the back of my scull. After the cursing, X rays and pain I thought I was lucky. Between this

and a motorcycle lay down in 4 lanes of heavy traffic, which I walked away from and a bicycle accident that cost

me a bunch of my innards. I sold or gave away anything I owned with 2 wheels.

Three close calls with the 'big guy' in 1 short summer.

I know what you mean ... I was walking across a very busy street in SoCal at night, and got hit by a truck. I probably should be dead. it was a beefy truck and the driver said he never saw me, he felt a thud and stopped; but still didn't see anything. Thank God that he got out of his truck to look and then saw me lying in the street ... if he would have driven forward, he would have ran over me again.

He got me right in the ribcage ... if that truck had been lifted a bit higher, I guess the side of my head would have taken part of the blow.

It does not matter it was still a truck, I doubt you would slightly slow down even the lightest truck, just a thump.   You were lucky, living with problems is better than not living.

Considering everything you did pretty good.

curiosity in me wanted to see the truck.  I heard the paramedics at the hospital tell the doctor that I left my imprint in the grill of the truck. the initial impact didn't hurt at all ... it felt like someone ran up behind me and pushed me down -- Don't get me wrong, it was very powerful; but I wasn't thinking that I was hit by a vehicle. when I was lying in the street, it didn't hurt either. I stayed still to be cautious knowing that moving could cause more injury. Now, when the paramedics moved me -- then it hurt.
