Cables, Coffee, Cycles, and Cocktails

Good morning.

It’s a balmy 37 in Motown, with a predicted high of 48.  The January thaw in our driveway exposed a lost key to our 2012 Ford Transit Connect.  Those unusual keys with remote buttons are ~$200 each from Ford and can’t be easily obtained elsewhere. The originals came from Turkey, as did the van.

The filthy mounds of plowed snow all over make a January thaw quite unattractive and depressing.

Mornin' all

enjoy it ... the end is near

we're at about 20`, en route to 60` today.

The woodstove is still mighty attractive. Yep, it is our "furnace". We'll burn less than a cord over the season.

I have a little money to burn and am in a bit of a quandary. Should I get lower end floorstanders or higher end bookshelf?

Thnx.

Hadn't considered used.

I see rebuild threads ...

I am not unfamiliar with a soldering iron. Used to play R/C helicopters. Those spend more time on the bench than in the air, while you are learning. I got scared away from that hobby after a "Sorry, wrong number" call from Raytheon

...serious

you see the ARMY ads where the are using tiny , hand held "drones" ....

that's what we, several of us on an R/C forum, were doing.

In hindsight, I should have pursued it.

the room I am working with is 11 X 25 ... if that matters.

The Cornwalls look great. Now, to get some for the right price.

thnx again for indulging me

I've always said the snow does hide a lot of ugliness.

I agree with Mike, Cornwalls would fill that room nicely, so would Fortes, RB75s, Chorus, Heresy, RF series.

I would rather have a high end bookshelf than a lower end floor speakers.

Higher end floor standers  as far as soldering goes, replacing a few capacitors would be the most and it wouldn't be an emergency to do it.

Take your time and look and be ready to jump when they pop up, you will end up with way more for your money.

Sorry don't know how or if I could cut it off.

If the 81's are dirt cheap get them and try them out, you could always sell them when something else pops up. Just know the going rate for those before buying to make sure you can sell later without a problem. I would think some one may want them for extra speakers in a HT ?

I don't know of their status, I don't keep up with or know much at all about any RF speakers.

Except for one pair of black RB-75's we have and they are probably going to our daughters for rear speakers. We got them at an auction dirt cheap new in box, wish I could have gotten 100 pair at that price as popular as they seem to be now.

Sorry I don't keep up with current speaker prices, mostly because we have no room or need for any more.

Edit...only dirt cheap ones

I take they are not in a highly favored status..

What would be a decent price on a pair of Cornwalls? We are at the very edge of out of my league with them.

I think wvu80 here on the forum keeps up to date on prices.  Maybe he'll chirp in.

Totally dependent on cosmetic condition, functional condition, whether CW1, CW2, if any mods or updates done, risers included or not, location, willingness to ship or meet up.  Lots of factors here.  Could be anywhere between $500 to $1500.

To answer your question that was really for someone else

dirt cheap

bullshet, it's the only thing I have plenty of

It's a big room but it's filled up with speakers

yes

way to much

at times

of course

That was easy I didn't even have to give an email address for that survey.
