Hey dtel.  I put in a small Japanese maple a few weeks ago and its been wet here ever since.  Now the leaves are drooping.  is it possible for these things to be over watered?  It's a disectum red select.  I didn't think transplant shock because it looked fine until I noticed the wilting leaves today.

YES if is not high enough for the roots to not sit in water. They can take being wet for a while as long as the roots are not sitting in water.

 

What Carl said is also true, if the tree was in more shade and moved in full sun it can have a problem, about all you can do for that is keep it in the container and try to give it a little more sun over time. 

 

I just lost a really nice Crimson Queen because of water, we redone the front garden and that it made where it was planted a little low, it started to hold water with the wet spring we had. It made me sick to lose it, we had it about 10 years and it would cost about 300 to replace it, I just stuck a different one we had in a pot to replace after redoing that whole section of garden and raising it.

The bad part is the one that replaced it is Seiryu, and upright growing and green dissectum.

 

If you can raise it so the bottom of the roots would be above any standing water level.

 

This is the one we lost it was about 5'tall which is pretty tall for that tree  (red tree), I stuck it in the back yard hoping it comes back but I doubt it.

Well crud more rain on the way there is nothing I can do about it.  It's in a mostly shady spot, I'm not worried it was the sun.  If it doesn't recover at least its only 12.99 down the drain.

That's a real good price for that tree.

 

Overwatering looks the same as needing water, leaves drooping, at that price see what happens if it's not sitting in water it may recover.

 

Japanese maples are our favorite plant, we have 9 or them in the front garden, all except one is a grafted named variety.

Question for Dtel........  because you posted some nice pic, it looks like you have a green thumb, so I'll pick on you;

 

Where on the internet can I find good information about the type of fruit trees that will do good in my area. The kids love fruit, and citrus too. Peaches and Plums do really well here, but I don't know what kind they are or for that matter which are the sweeter types. There are a gillion types of peaches, and same with plumbs.

 

I'd love citrus, but don't know that oranges or grapefruit would do so good since our area can get relatively cold (Mid. 20's is typically the worse case scenario, when it gets that cold here, it seldom if ever last more than a 2 or 3 days).

 

I'd also like to have a aguacate tree too, and was told there are some that will grow here, but nobody knows what kind.

I think citrus trees need a really good cold snap to ripen and sweeten up.  Long hard freezes are no good though.  There are citrus trees all over around here.  My son has a lemon tree in his front yard and you're as far north as we are.  In fact, we're almost parallel.
