Places in Indy to view HT w/projector and screen?

You can drive to Kansas City and hear the thx ultra package with 4 18's flat to 8hz at reference levels on a 106". That wil surely sell it and make it worth the trip! Lol

Look up some nice high end audio stores around you and just make a couple calls. I have one or two around me. Lots of places that sell projectors. But they are in bright lit rooms and all look like garbage. You HAVE to see it in its natural environment.

Orrrrr, just buy it all without asking! Then when she is pissed about it, first movie that gets watched is the notebook, accompanied with a home cooked meal by you, as well as a glass if her favorite wine. BOOM all is forgiven. She will love it man! You'll never have to go to the movies again!

hahaha. i will NOT be breaking the cherry on my projector with the notebook!

i'm also trying to figure out what size of screen to get. according to http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/home-theater/hdtv-set-up/ , i'd want to use a 120" screen if i want my viewing position to remain the same.

i have room for a 135" screen but i'd have to move the viewing area back...which means my side surrounds would be a couple of feet forward of where i'm sitting.

I just got a projector and found this site very helpful. There are lots of reviews as well as a calculator to check throw distance, screen size, etc...

Thanks. I have spent some time on projectorcentral. My biggest question is choosing the most practical size, not necessarily what will work. I'm leaning towards 120".

IndyKlipschFan has a La Scala based HT. You can see a lot of the work here (linking to page 5, which has some pics, but you can go to the top to see more of it)

https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/62376-install-day-finally/page-5?hl=%20all%20%20la%20%20scalas

He has a lot of threads in the Architectural pages, discussing his build, as well as in the Home Theater pages.

How far is your seating position now? I was sitting about 13 feet from my 106 which I thought was perfect but once I added second row the front row is now about 10 feet which NOW IS perfect. If I sit in the back row and 16 feet it leaves me wanting bigger for sure

i'm sitting about 9.5 feet away from a 50" plasma. probably too far. that same seating position would be about 142" from a 120" screen, which is just about perfect according to a lot of sites.

I think fryes right off exit 5 still has them and has a main room that consist of nothing but klipsch with a screen, at least last time I was in there it was still set up that way. Ovation may also be a place to take a look, I'm about an hour north of Indi and don't know of much places that have them set up for viewing. Wish I could help more since I'm closer than some but I'm worthless lol

We have one in Georgia... just one.

My former employer would always bring back stuff from Fry's when he made business trips to San Diego. The majority of them are in California and Texas.

I know some of you are from Indy...I'm looking at putting a projector and screen in my HT but need to sell the idea to my wife first. Are there any showrooms in the area I could visit to demo the idea to her?

I would talk you out of it. I'm not a fan of projectors. HD TV's are far superior overall, since they don't need expensive bulbs to replace. Also there is too much loss of contrast with any reflective medium (vs. transmissive for HDTV), unless your room is pitch dark. Even then, Plasma or LCD/LED HDTV's look way sharper, with greater contrast, and brighness. With the price of LCD/LED TV's coming down, you can get 80" for what a good screen/projector combo will run you.

Thumbs down on that ideal. Yes, I'm in Indy.
