Robert B.
Getting my first Klipsch tomorrow. They are the Forte II model. They may at some point need to be refoamed. Stiill intact, but they seemed a bit dry.
oldtimer
Welcome B. Forte IIs are great speakers. The woofers do not have foam surrounds.
eth2
welcome to the Forum! You mentioned refoaming the Fortes. It is my understanding that the Fortes also have paper woofers. If they need to be refoamed they must have replacement woofers. If so, I would stay away from them.
eth2
Sorry Oldtimer. we posted at the same time.
oldtimer
They aren't exactly paper like some brands. Klipsch calls them "fiber composite." Sometimes the rubber surrounds can get discolored but it doesn't mean anything is necessarily wrong.
Robert B.
Seems to be the case here...the discoloration that is.
Ceptorman
Welcome, I'm new here also. There's a lot of good info, and pretty friendly people.
oldtimer
I have had one pair since new in 1989. Bought two other pairs since. Enjoy yours! This forum is a great resource plus has the added benefit of being filled with all sorts of colorful characters.
Robert B.
Perhaps I can temper the colorful characters with my boring Aluhbamuh accent.

billybob
Welcome to the Klipsch Forums & Congratulations! Looks like a good deal to me. Nice deal! Almost looks like damaged or rubbed to me in photo. I would give them some rubber like gentle treatment and see how they look. Not necessarily son of a gun, but leather treatment may work in a pinch. Look thirsty or dry. Welcome & congrats.
moray james
Welcome. Sounds like a good deal. Lots of mods that can be done to your Forte ll if you are so inclined. Enjoy and like they say at NA meetings "keep coming back". Best regards Moray James.
Max2
Im betting those woofers are..... A OK, unless they are actually torn. Here is an old thread on the powdery white residue that shows up on them. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/55381-discolored-rubber-of-forte-woofers/

toolz
I would just wipe the surround off with a soft slightly dampened cloth. Be careful around the speaker cone. you do not want to damage it. Both pairs of my Forte II suffered from the "white stuff" when I picked them up. After you have them for awhile it will come back, just wipe them off.
moray james
your woofers are probably just fine. I would be listening and reading before buying new woofers. As far as I know the K28 is the factory suggested replacement woofer since the original one is no longer made. The K28 is in my opinion not a very good option if your stock ones work fine and only have a cosmetic issue. You only have to hold one of each (stock and K28) in your hands to understand what I mean. Sure the K28 will work but it does not have anywhere near the motor of the stock driver. You can buy K28's from Bob Crites if you are interested I think about $125.00 plus postage which will be around $35 - 40.00 each. just my best guess so do check with Bob for exact numbers but there are close I think. Your money will be much better spent on new crossovers and on titanium diaphragms for both the tweeter and the mid horns. Best regards Moray James. PS: for those who have one damaged woofer in their Forte or Forte ll you would need to buy two new K28 to replace them if you want the left and right speakers to match. toolz
I agree with Moray on the crossover and Ti tweeter replacements. Money well spent on both pairs of my Forte II. Edited March 17, 2014 by toolz
