I have a confession to make

I have never watched a Blu-ray Disc.

My main home theater (the one in my sig) is still in the DVD ages and doesn't even have an HDTV nor a Blu-ray Disc player. The TV in the living lounge is a nice Sony 1080p LED TV with a Sony Blu-ray HTIB but I still don't own any Blu-ray Discs. My PC also has a Blu-ray burner but only use it for ripping CDs, burning CDs, and OS installs.

I have and do watch 1080p rips on my PC and the living lounge TV though.

Boxx you put me in tears laughing lol your great.

In my opinion and my wife has grown our blur ray collection like something that grows fast iv never seen nothing like it, may be why im broke lol

anyhow imo you aint missing anything. im serious here. although im into speakers more than theater and have a couple bdp's that cost over$600 1 was used i dont find blurays that great. little old fashion maybe yet again i still use a cheapo vcr(mostly for classic porn JUST KIDDIN LOL)sometimes(haha) but its not even hooked up to nothing for quite a while...I just grad dvds even if theres a blu ray of the same film next to it.

I see blu ray and sure its better quality no matter what your watching tho its a new money maker for the foreign countrys to make more cash with new versions and updates every 6 months. half my gear has hdmi i still prefer rca or optical for digital programming due to preference in sound quality.

its not too surprising to see some of the best killer systems iv seen with a cheap dynex tv on the wall let alone the 20 inch floor tube tv with his mcintosh gear sitting on top of it. This is my take on it all and could go on and on but it just dont make 1 difference to me dvd to bluray. Save your money and by dvds cheap at the pawn shop. 1 day tho the dvd will be obsolete. I swore i'd never give up tape cassetes today i honestly have hundreds of good cd's i havent even looked at yet let alone at least 1000's of tracks on my ipod classic 160mb that is in some bundle of wire i dont figure on finding maybe ever..so

sounds like your an audio person like myself even tho theres 2 great theaters in my home. 2 ch please, even with movies

Neither have I, or my family, VuDu or Netflix is the norm here, and will continue be.

Don't own the bluray player and have no desire to.

A simple 5.1 POS Bose system on the Samsung 60" is fine.

I will likely Never buy into HT more than this, my story is a little different when it comes to movies.

I own a stake (small) in a theater multiplex, have for quite some time, when we want to see a first run, we show up a midnight with booze, cigars and we party, trust me when I say the sound system goes way, way louder than the norm.

ooooooh and there was a bad word in there. I do appreciate your comment as well. Iv been killing it on netflix(great point)just listening to my 3d whatever 50"vizio. I used to tune it to 2ch if was in 2ch or 5.1 if was in 5.1 format on netflix. I have 2 sweet actually 3 darn good theaters in 1 room and a single theater in the wifes room she normally uses some audio technica cans that were gifted to her and shes got some sweet powered monitors but she uses blu ray almost all the time lol sounds like you only need worry about choice spirits minermark

Blu-ray and 1080p resolution and higher comes into a greater value when your running a projector system home theater. When the screen size gets up to 100" plus the hidef definitely is more meaningful. At the same time hidef sometimes shows to much on classic films :( the matte painting become more of an eyesore in the older films :/ as for the audio I enjoy the uncompressed but was happy with compressed optical as well

Also depending on what your watching the uncompressed bluray audio can be more impactful. I found this to be both good and bad just as with the video. Certain action films come to mind that simply completely immerse you in the experience. Especially with the types of setups a lot of us run in the community. Some of the new superhero flicks and even some of my favorite action/sci-fi adventure films are incredible on bluray. Then again the HiRes audio format can make the soundtracks and such seem almost harsh. The brass horns in older soundtrack I found to hurt the ears at high volumes in films such as Lawrence of Arabia which I watched 2 weeks ago. It has its ups or down but I enjoy having the option on bluray players to put in both dvds and blurays. I have kept a few of my old VHS tapes that had a nice memory attached to them for when I saved up enough money as a kid to purchase it from a rental store etc. before best buy. Still have my VHS of Gremlins and the Goonies as well as several others. Even saved a few Laser Discs.
