YPAO...Very Cool for a Tube Guy

As part of a sell off of my Frazier Elevens that netted a nice bit of coin, I purchased some things I was jonesin' for. Quite honestly met my needs for the moment and still had some bucks left so I figure I'd treat the family. Bought a Yamaha Aventage HT receiver. It replaced a Panasonc SA-XR57 which I'd used for a number of years. Great audio, but the single HDMI in and out a bit of a bottleneck these days requiring a lot of switching.

Bottom line: Totally impressed with the YPAO auto setup. Put the mic in the sweet spot, and said "do it." It responded "You people are entirely too loud." Turned off the AC, told the family to be quiet, and tried again. It went through routine and said "OK, Ace, you have three speakers out of phase." Alrighty then. Thought I got it right, ran it again, and it said "Nice try, douchebag, but still two out of phase." Third time: "Would have been easier if I didn't have to deal with an idiot, but I've adjusted the levels of these speakers and balanced them for the godawful acoustics in this so called room for you. Say thank you."

Really impressive, and the results outstanding. The Panny had been completely unable to bring the Cornwall I am using as a center in line with the much less efficient other speakers, but the YPAO managed to do it nicely.

Only watched "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" so far (son's request) but the sound was quiet marvelous.

Must relate this quick thinking from dad for the evening: Son says "Just what is a wardrobe anyway?" Response from dad: "Similar to chifforobe without drawers."

Very funny.

I haven't tried YPAO yet, but I think I like Audyssey better because it doesn't make fun of me and call me names. The worst thing it has done to me is I caught it rolling it's eyes back in it's processor.

Nice pick. It must be nice already using the air conditioner. I use to live in Brownsville Tx and I think Dec-Feb were the only months thwiat we did not run the air conditioner. I will be happy with 50 tomorrow here in the Midwest. Does YAPO do anything with the sub?

Welcome to this century Dave. Glad you could join us.

Some of us old guys just have to be pushed into the 21 century.

My HTR does not have YPAO, codes for bluray, or even HDMI. It's a Yamaha RX V730 practically an antique, maby one day.........right before they change everything again probably ?

At least it's not pro-logic, some of the youngsters might not even remember those days !

I have been using Yamaha AVRs for years though now I have outboard amps for mains and sides so the AVR only powers the center and backs. The YAPO has always done a good job, my "room" ends about 4 feet from the back wall which is actually part of the hallway. We have a brick fireplace on one wall and a wall of windows covered with thick curtians on the opposite wall, carpet and popcorn acoustic spray on the ceiling.

You must have the new AI YAPO, mine does not have the ability to smart mouth me though I am sure that if it could have it would have several times :D

Incredibly hilarious post had me laugh out loud in my office at work people looked in on me lol. If YPAO insults you to that degree my Anthem D2v’s ARC technology pretty much had me to rethink my life and talk me into a divorce so I can build another theater... Glad your enjoying quality equalization :)
