ducks75
Hi guys i have a chance to pick up a pair of tangent 500 in mint condition for 150$ and am wondering. How these would compare to my kg 5.5? Any input is much appreciated.
beeker
For $150 the tangent 500 in mint condition is a very good buy. Many similarities of the t500 to the heresy 2. I have some t5000's and although the specs between both the 500 and 5000 vary from what i read and know the 2(t500&t5000)are a heresy variety with a passive 12" radiator kind of speaker that are a bit rare. I have heard some people say the t500 are big brothers to the kg 5.5. Even at that i would still say it would be a step up into what i prefer in a klipsch 3 way in the klipsch heritage series. It is likely your 5.5 need updated crossovers or just freshened up as well as the t500 once you get them in your hands. Using an eq in my opinion you can get out of them what you will get with a fresh or updated crossover. Regardless my comparison hearing the kg 5.5 and tangent 5000 yes they are very similar although the 5000(much like the 500)being a 3 way as i prefer is like i said a simple big brother to the kg 5.5. If you do not buy the t500's please let us on the forum know, as well as if you buy and dont like them. Please take good care of them as well. They are becoming very rare and as a passionate klipsch collector myself i see preserving a pair of mint t500's now 25 years later will be very much appreciated. Also if you dont buy im sure depending on your location that you will find a buyer for them. At this time may not make a whole lot of money although i may be very wrong. In time even at this moment the tangent 500&5000 is very hard to come by. I will find the current t500,t5000 klipsch tangent thread and post it here for you to read. Cheers to you!
beeker
You can also go to the klipsch.com non forum website, at the top right side(of non forum website) you will find "HELP" tap onto that then put kg 5.5 or tangent t500 in once at a time and you can do a direct comparison between the two. heres the link to tangent thread https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/73121-anyone-heard-the-tangent-t-5000s/ Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted on what you find in your comparison. May add it to the tangent thread or even ask a question in that thread about them both kg5.5&t500. Good people frequent that thread. Searching will bring up lots of good ifo as well..

cheric
I would buy them in a heart beat at that price. Think of it as a Heresy II on steroid. Edited April 9, 2014 by cheric
billybob
I would buy them in a heart beat at that price. Think of it as a Heresy II on steroid. Get them, have had them, worth it. No compare with 5.5, different animal which I have.
Marvel
The 500, 400 and Heresy II all use the same components. The 400 is ported, the 500 uses a passive radiator. The Klipsch info says the 400 and 500 have a K-24-K woofer with a poly cone, but it isn't. Bruce
beeker
Wow what a great turnout for the comparison. cheers for the tangent by klipsch 500 I use to live my life for mine. Today i keep them cause they are a really good 3 way as well as a tall heresy needing no stand, risers etc...

ducks75
Correct if im wrong but from what ived read they will not have the bass or build quality of my kgs. Is that a correct assumption?

ducks75
This is my first klipsch two way ive had quartets and heresy 2 and im hoping they will compare with the quartets because i loved those
moray james
you can't beat the price for the drivers alone. I would buy them for that price. As far as speakers go if you are into modifying I would look for a pair of 5.5 or parts for a 5.5 and build a cabinet that is a little larger and you can tune it a little lower to around 30 Hz.. Titanium diaphragms will transform a pair of 5.5 as will other modifications, you can have a lot of fun. Another great option would be a pair of CF3 which are a three driver two way much superior to the 5.5. Lots of options to explore. Best regards Moray James.
cheric
This is my first klipsch two way ive had quartets and heresy 2 and im hoping they will compare with the quartets because i loved those The T500 is the Heresy II with MORE Bass. If you love the Heresy II, you will love the T500. KG5.5 and Tangent 500 are two different beasts. (one is a leopard, the other is a tiger )

The advert at Klipsch list them as two way. They are 3 way, like a heresy if you want to think that. They are tallish. Around 36 inch as may recall. Ther is/was an image here at Klipsch. beeker
I will say while running 5000's with an eq without fresh crossovers I added a very good powered 12 to them(tried a few powered 12's)and found they did not need a powered sub. I have also owned quartets and its a toss up although my quartets were not black which i prefer black i still found the front passive made it a bit easier to place in a room for use. With the h2 I really have to go tangent all the way. If you are hungry for bass get a cheap eq until you can update the networks. Musically compared to a kg 5.5 I really find it hard to compare. They are both good although the 3 way tangent will likely make you much more happy. Very similar to a quartet.
