Found this little jewel on the CW1 edge, two each...

One lower left, one upper right on the front facing edge.

The other interesting thing is the difference in the colors of the plywood. Could these be differing wood species on the sides or? (I doubt it, but, you never know what those crazy factory folks might have done....) I thinks it's rather striking, and I'll looking forward to sanding it down and taking a look.

looks like you have lumber core with birch veneer. The sides and top look as if they have a coat of poly or varnish while the bottom simply look to have not been coated. The birch has taken on a nice patina over the years, I would give it a fresh coat and keep it looking that way. Some fresh poly will add just a shade more color to the finish. If you like you can sand and install any veneer you like. Be aware that if you sand off the poly down to clean wood (birch) you will also sand off that nice patina. Best regards Moray James.

the letter F is the first initial of the person at the Hope factory who built the speaker and if their are more letters stamped underneath its the other people who worked on them also, and all my cornwalls have the USA stamped in them

as far as the difference in color is the bottom is never exposed to natural sunlight and the riser is screwd on. plywood takes on that beautiful yellow color

"looks like you have lumber core with birch veneer"

Ordinary fir plywood with birch faces. Real lumbercore plywood (below)

Thanks Dennis. I always thought that the fir ply used above with thin veneer skins was called lumber core and that plywood was made with thin veneers and high end ply was made from selects and better veneers such as Baltic Birch ply no knots or voids. Appreciate the picture as the name really does say it all. Best regards Moray James.
