Jico stylus for V15 iii.... advice please.

I need a new stylus for my V15 iii, checked out the Jico site and there are a few different types on offer. Anyone have any experience to offer me ? I like the idea of the $78 elliptical, but is there big improvement to be had by moving up the ladder a bit?....Thanks.

PS....Maybe the question should be...is there any reason for not buying the $78 elliptical stylus ?

I don't know what Jico offers for stylus cuts, but I have found that the Shibata and nude line cuts retrieve more information from the grooves, and also have less surface noise (clicks and pops). Of course, your whole system is dependent on whether it would make a difference. Your mileage may vary.

Time to sell the V15 Type 3. Yes they have legions of fans, but they are all at least 15 years old, and I'd be worried about the bits inside that connect to the stylus and go up and down. I sold all of mine two years ago for that reason, and, cough, cough, I needed the dough.

If you can swing it go for a new mm in the $200 range. The Shure will sell for at least $75, so not much of a stretch for you.

They have legions of fans for good reason Marty, hence me wanting to hold onto mine. The chances of it going bad aren't worth betting on....;)

Hard to blame you. However, it's not that it's going bad, but that it's not as good as it was the day it was built.

Sorry, to me, it's a fact of life with carts.

Some would argue with me, many would agree.

For my Thorens I went to ED Saunders, I was very pleased with the sound. But like kevinmi said, you could depend on your system. What do you have now for gear, it may not be worth 78.00 for a stylus.

Duder, I have an "Ed Saunders" stylus on my other V15 iii, but I didn't like it as much as the original that I am now trying to get a replacement for. Don't really know what it was about the Saunders replacement, but it sounded kind of thin in comparison, but for $49 it is still very good.

Thanks for the opinion on that, I haven't tried anything else. I was once going to try a newer cart per Thebes recommendation with my Dual, but the gentlemen at fixmydual.com said it was good and I should keep it. Sorry Thebes, I didn't want to spend money if I didn't have to. Someday I wouldn't mind upgrading, but those types of upgrades are for when I run out of current upgrades and projects. Someday, only someday. Needless to say I haven't heard anything from the cart that is bad, so I will live with it.

I certainly would not put down the Ed Saunders stylus, and will probably buy another in the future. It still sounds very good in comparison to many other cartridge/stylus that I have, but side by side with an original there is a slight difference.
