What exactly is the damping material in my CW I's?

What is the material that is inside the cabinets that looks and feels like a layered paper, secured with string? What's the term used for it? Can it be purchased anywhere? Or should it be replaced? Mine is very, very fragile, and in one of the cabinets has been ravaged by mice....

can't give you the name but it is an organic short fiber material much like (if not) Kapok. There is a current day source for this damping material which I have seen on this site but since I never needed any I never made note of. I you have a local upholsterer shop you can get some Kapok about 2" thick on the roll and staple that in place should be a direct drop in. Or one of the regulars here who have replaced old damping with the new stuff can tell you. Best regards Moray James.

Found it and here is the link

I was wondering if this is what is suggested to use when adding dampening material to old speaker cabinets that have no dampening material. I have left over rockwool from making bass traps, and I also have extra auralex. I thought about maybe putting in a layer of the rockwool with a layer of breathable fabric or landscaping fabric.
