Klipsch Woofer Thiele/Small Parameters v2.1

This is a database of klipsch driver Thiele/Small specifications for use in WinISD. As of this post, the current attached zip file contains the following .wdr files. You can also click on the driver link to display the T/S specs for each driver.

If you have the TS specifications on any of the Klipsch woofers, please share them here. I will be updating a WinISD database and attaching it to this post. I will also be editing this post to include pointers to pages much like the Klipsch Crossovers thread.

Unzip the included files into your

"This PC > Documents > WinISD > drivers" folder to use them in WinISD

 

PS: I have also included my collection of Dayton Audio drivers in the Dayton Drivers file below. It goes in the same place as the Klipsch files.

k33 in a CW is like minus 5db at 38-39 Hz

Klipsch claims 34Hz-20Khz! I didn't know they mean -5db! it's routine that the frequency response is stated at +-3db.

for now on whetever speaker I build, I'll say they are 20hz-20khz and nobody would find out that I meant 20hz -25db! :D

Ha you are right. In mild defense of the Cornwall the do an ok job of pounding hard down to where they can. They are likely ok down to 45Hz or so before they start to roll. If you want the lowest possible response in the smallest possible cabinet volume you will need to use a driver with a Qts of 0.33 or so that's very close to the ideal.

Sorry about the paragraphs of info, I tried to cut and paste the lists from the Klipsch page but the lists got turned into one long paragraph. Must have something to do with the site here I don't know. If you search at the Klipsch forum you can find info on most all their speakers.. Best regards Moray James.

The data on the K33E/K34E is wrong.

The K33E (15162) when inputted into BassBox v6.0 ouputs a Cornwall.

The classic Cornwall was specified as being ±5dB down to 38hz.

I have updated data on the K-33 to show square and round magnet specs. The K-33/34 had the wrong xmax, and that has been corrected.

You can download the current versions of winisd files, but make sure you delete the original Klipsch K-33-E.wdr from your WinISD directory if it exists there. The file names are now Klipsch K-33-E-square.wdr and Klipsch K-33-E-round.wdr

I have added Bob Crites' CW1526 woofer (K-33 replacement) from data he provided in another post.

i recently measured two woofers and averaged them out. I also designed a "Super Heresy" based on a ported Heresy 1 cabinet, K-700, modified "E" network, and an amazing new tweeter using a pair of these. See my "Heretical Heresy" thread.

Here are the T/S paramters of a K-42-KP woofer rated at 8 ohms impedance.

Fs=48.8 Hz.

Qms=2.926

Vas=3.09 cu. ft.(87.57 Liters).

n(o)=2.915%

Mms=46.2 Grams

Re=5.4 ohms

Qes=.333

SPL=96.75 db 1W/1Meter

Cms=.23 mm/N

Qts=.3

Le=.53 mH

BL=15.17

Looks a lot like an Eminence Delta Pro 12A

I'm not sure why the T/S parameters are so coveted for our stuff. I mean if you want to create your own speakers, then pick a driver that fits your needs for your specific project. Anything you buy from us was spec'd for a specific job most of the time, not to mention it cost a penny or 2.

I understand why Klipsch would be guarded. It isn't covetous it's more about finding replacement drivers for existing enclosures where replacements are no longer sold by Klipsch. Nobody would expect the T/S params for current products. Some people have Klipsch drivers laying around and they would like to re-purpose them. I have a K22, a K43, a square mag K33 and a round mag K33 just shelved. I think of them as backups to be fair, but if I were to use them in another enclosure, it would be nice to have an idea of how they would work in a home-made enclosure. The only way to do that is with the math that those T/S specs can give.

 

I love Klipsch drivers. You show me any other driver that is as good as new 30 years after it was made. Intelligent engineering is what that's about. Saying BS to planned obsolescence is what that's about. Maybe coveted isn't so wrong after all.
