Looks almost like a variant of an old University design:

This design is driven from rear of the woofer and bass-ported to the front using two ports on the flanks of the motorboard which fire out along the walls of the corner it is put into....whereas the one this guy has is also driven from the rear of the woofer, but ported to the rear for room corner reflection around the sides of the speaker cabinet. we can see how the one in this plan works, but we cannot see EXACTLY how the one this guy has actually works.

That is definitely a Klipsch crossover.  I wonder if these aren't DIY Shorthorns. This thread on AudioKarma has a picture of a brochure which mentions DIY Kits: they may have been made by somebody whose skill in cabinetmaking was greater than his skill at wiring.

Not Shorthorns, factory, kit, DIY, or otherwise.

I've googled pictures of the Jensen as well as the Klipsch Shorthorn and Rebel, they seem to fall in-between and have elements of each. Very funky looking speakers and if they sound good (or could sound good), they would be worth restoring. Those cabinets are very nice and furniture grade by the look of the pictures.

Home brew (look at the cut outs for the woofer) and using Klipsch parts.  Was a larger rear ported enclosure and the front was not a port but I assume hole for midbass.

The back panels are nailed on.  It doesn't seem you were ever supposed to change the woofer without a crowbar.  Should open it up to figure out what the woofers were.

Also Klipsch didn't go for L-Pads.

plans are here....WWW.superbadcat.com/Jensen/imp_diy.pdf

this is how these cabinets STARTED.......it's all there...... without the makeup

As you said, started.  Those are rear ported without bass horn.  The box and top are closed off.
