Cornwalled
Hello again, It's been a while, but as always, I end up finding my way back here! A few days ago, I visited Music Go Round in Wilkes Barre, PA, and found an item I just couldn't resist- a Yamaha Club Series III Subwoofer with an Eminence Kilomax woofer in it for $160. I recognized the unmistakable metal heatsink on the front of the driver. I knew right away the driver alone was more than what they were asking, so I grabbed it. Great decision. The box may be huge, but this thing sounds fantastic. I'm powering it with a Crest V450 in bridged mode. It may only be around 450 watts, but for my living room, that's plenty! I've thrown it anything from pipe organs to 80s pop to modern electronica, and it's sounded great. I'm a drummer, and I really appreciate what this thing does for a kick drum. On a good recording, it has a way of making it sound like the bass drum is right in front of you. Impressive. I feel like I got a good deal on this cab. What do you guys think? djk
You did OK, but I never would buy the Kilomax 15 new. The mechanical damage limit is too low (13mm), a Kappa Pro 15LFC is a much better driver (less expensive too).
Cornwalled
This is the 18" version.
djk
Same problem, no x-mech. The 18 is stated as 19.2mm vs the 15 being 13.5mm, so it's quite a bit better. When tuned to 40hz in a 6 cu ft box the Kilomax 18 will hit x-max with 800W. Edited July 3, 2014 by djk
