Coytee
I've got a 'situation' that I see brewing before me. Might ask if someone is able to do a favor. I might be heading to Vanderbilt to have a couple tests done. One of which will be a colonoscopy. Thing is they will only discharge you to a responsible adult. (are Klipsch folks really responsible?!!) For various reasons, my wife might not be able to make the trip which means....nobody to release me to. We're still working on this angle. I might be looking to see if someone can simply: A: Pick me up at Vandy and take me to my car (or perhaps hotel) B: Pick me up and maybe have a couple hour jam session and then once you feel I'm 100% lucid, take me to my car I'm just trying to feel out other options as a backup in case the wife can't attend. Current date is Wed, Sept 10 although I asked they put me on a waiting list if someone cancelled. PM if willing to consider.
BigStewMan
The responsible adult part disqualifies every member of this forum…Amy might be responsible since she's left. If you want to spring for a plane ticket from Los Angeles and rent me a car -- I'd be glad to help you out. I'm sure you'll get a better offer though. If you don't get any takers, give $20 to a homeless person and they'll "be your ride." Hope the scope goes well…not sure how to encourage you on that one. derrickdj1
If you can't find a driver, ask them if 23 hour observation is an option if you live far from the medical center. You would hate to have an accident with anesthesia in your system.
BigStewMan
you may just have to forget the meds and just take it. My brother just had one…they gave him the IV meds and while doing the exam, he was watching the monitor and asked, "does that look normal?" The doctor was shocked and said, "are you still awake?" They said he had a very high tolerance for the drugs because he never felt even the slightest bit tired or sleepy.

wvu80
As a colonoscopy veteran, I really agree with all the other comments here. You are getting put under strong anesthesia, the same as if you had surgery. Driving yourself home after the procedure is NOT a safe option. There should be an ambulette service in your area, maybe they could take you home. For the record, the colonoscopy saved my life.

You would hate to have an accident with anesthesia in your system. Agree you should ask for an overnight observation bed. Technically, it's not an admission, which payers won't reimburse for this purpose. They'll have a limited number of observation beds, so you need to get in the queue if you can.Around here, they won't turn you over to someone, even a health professional, who only gives you a ride home and then takes off. They'll insist on someone staying overnight with you. Anesthesia departments aren't casual about this, unfortunately. It's not a system made for people who live alone.
CECAA850
Versed (Rx) Better to have propofol. When they wake you up from that, you're wide awake. It's just like taking a nap and waking up.

I was fine from mine when I woke up as well, but I still had a ride waiting. It was pretty funny, though. My late wife was home and in no condition to drive me to the procedure. The wife from a couple we knew offered to take me, and while sitting in the large waiting area, we would see couples sitting there. A name would be called and we would see a man get up to go to the back and his wife would give him a kiss. After about three of those, the friend who brought me just said, 'Don't expect a kiss when they call your name...' Bruce

derrickdj1
MIchael Jackson highly recommended Propofol. Usually they use more than one drug during the anesthesia. I call it a cocktail. Edited July 18, 2014 by derrickdj1
