Kpt-904s vs kpt-12-vb as surrounds?

Hate to keep asking questions, but more input is always wanted.

I have 4 904s, two for mains and two for surrounds and enough parts for a 5th when I build a cabinet(or get one built). Until fate delivered me enough 904s I'd been planning on the 12-vb's.

I'll have the room with for 904s as surrounds, I tested them today in the living room as surrounds and they aren't overwhelming. Question is, would the 12-vb's simply be better suited for surround use?

It's all about position at this stage. Depending on your room layout, purpose-built surrounds will be able to be more accurately positioned, so as to gain a more convincing surround effect. I have three of the KPT250's that I hope to install one day.

Build that 5th, use three across the front, and sell me the other two, mmk?

It would be cool if they made 1 with the 510 and the same driver in the 904. That way you could have it up above ear level. How would you get the 904 so that you can hear all of it without putting it up higher. I would think somthing would block some of the drivers depending how it was placed. If you could put it side ways and mount it up  on the wall with the 510 on top angled down. That would be really nice. Talk to jason and get some grills made. That would look pretty cool imo.

Getting the 904s up up higher would be relatively easy. I was thinking of building simple columns around them, drywall on either side and speaker grill cloth down the front, floor to ceiling. All I'd have to do is build a stand to raise them up more within the column.

I'd much rather use 12-vbs as sides rather than 1201s. Yes their a lot more expensive but I feel like I'm going all out with a 904 based system, what's another few hundred bucks?

But yeah if I decide to go with vb-12s I'll still build another 904 and put a pair up for sale.

I had not, they are almost as expensive as the 12-vb's. Hard to tell what the difference is.

Interestingly a guy just put a pair of kp-2500c's for sale. As he says their the same as the kp-250's, which in turn appear to be nearly identical to the kpt-250's spec wise, only in a different form. Might be perfect for rears.

The kpt250 is really close to a heresy without the finish. I was thinking of just using a pair of heresys for rears. I love the angled form of the kpts. It works and looks great on the wall.

I obsessed looking at the different ones and prices and for me the 1201s fit the bill. And sold my rs62ii for close to the total cost. But really it was v12 or the 250s that I wanted. I just could not talk myself into spending that much more on those.

A guy in garage sale was selling the kp-250 speakers which from what I could see we're nearly identical to the kpt-250s, I almost jumped on it, but they don't match any other speakers I'm looking at. Dan the man is hooking me up with ki-272 speakers that use the same horns as both the 12-vbs and 1201s!

I do not have a price quote from anyone, but a google search turned one up for sale at $1280!! Didn't say whether it was a pair or a single, I cannot imagine its a single.

It might be. Some of the prices I have seen on the 904s are way way higher then I paid. I wonder what klipsch charges for the http://www.klipsch.com/SB-7. I could mount and hang my rears with them I think.
