DizRotus
Is it my imagination or does Alex Avila get hit by foul tips, wild pitches, back swings, etc. more than any other MLB catcher? He just left a game after taking a second foul to the mask. The Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy would like to see his brain when he's done with it. Uts
he takes a beating! i know he gets paid well for being behind the plate, but some nights i feel sorry for the guy. it's almost an every game occurrence. to me, the opposing catchers rarely take direct hits. last nights was pretty bad though. he pretty much fell straight backwards while still in his crouch. i hope for a speedy recovery. the tigers will need him for the push down the stretch. DizRotus
One theory is that he's so aggressive blocking errant pitches that pitchers are more confident throwing stuff that breaks wildly causing more foul tips, etc. It seems like it must be more than just bad luck.At the rate he's going, he'll be a wreck when he 's my age.
