djk
The horn has been repaired twice, I may have Dave Harris make some out of Baltic Birch.
WMcD
Wow. How are you bending that plywood; is it the special bendable type? Any information would be welcome. WMcD
djk
"How are you bending that plywood; is it the special bendable type?" Multiple thin layers built up on four horse-shoe ribs. The veneer layer is actually 5.5mm ply sanded thinner on a large drum sander.
Rick J B
Nice. But why the bullnose vs the sharp V?
longdrive03
WOWSERS DJK!!! Cool project. Looks like width is wider than LS?? Now you've started me thinking! Are you going to use K-33 woofer? Share any info you can. Great project as always.

When I was making midrange horns I used a stack of thin bending plywood built up to about 1/2 inch with yellow glue and then bent the conglomeration on a form. The ply and yellow glue was like a sandwich with too much mayonnaise with things slipping around and dripping. Smile, WMcD
djk
"Nice. But why the bullnose vs the sharp V?" Looks. " Looks like width is wider than LS??" Same width and depth as the Belle. " Are you going to use K-33 woofer?" No, PPSL with four 8's in a plenum. Although it will accept a 15 if desired. The four 8's sound much cleaner than a single 15.

But lets not be coy.........smile It's going to sound different than LaS LF. I KNOW that you must have design model projections. What frequency response are you expecting, etc? Have read too many of your posts to buy "looks" as the major design criteria. Come on. Give! Regards, tc

Pretty cool.
drboar
That is cool looking horns, I have some plans to build curved La Scala type horns, I do not know if the sound will differ but as modeled in HornResponse, the actual horn shape (within reason) have minor effects on the modeled response. So with a set lengths mouth size and throat then changing the curvature and chamber size mostly change the roundness of the knee at the high pass frequeny. BTW, do you have any ideas why 4 x 8" sounds cleaner than one 15"?
djk
"BTW, do you have any ideas why 4 x 8" sounds cleaner than one 15"?" PPSL means push-pull slot-loaded. Tests have shown a 30dB reduction in 2nd harmonic distortion in a pair of push-pull LAB 12 woofers at full power, 20dB in 4th harmonic. djk
"Your Emilar EH-520 would look nice in there,,," The HF board is removable. I have the elliptical horns from Faital Pro and 18 Sound on hand, as well as the Elliptrac.
seanwalsh
Are listening tests in the works for the various combinations?
grindstone
Very nice and thanks for sharing. I'm mostly PPSL-ignorant, but if you have the time & inclination, is this general concept of bass bin something you'd have considered for applications w/o EQ (and assumed-?) multiamping? NBPK402
I like the bull nose design... Can't wait ti hear how they sound to you.

Well, it's the same Sd as a 15, so the secret must be in the reversed voice coils, having 4 motors instead of 1, and squeezing the air rather than pushing it.
