Taz
Time for a new computer, Taz? Thinking about having everything I care about transfered to an external hard drive. Having the new hard drive I put in the lap top wiped as clean as can be done [someone smarter than I]. Then loading the back up disk or whatever you call it that I got when computer was new.. Any opinions as to doing this. I do have email from my deceased sister that I don't want to loose-that's the most important. The other things I can recover in other non-computer ways. wvu80
I suggest you clone your primary drive (Drive C) completely onto a backup drive (Drive D). You will end up with two fully functional drives that could be plugged into your computer. The reason for this is I don't fully trust software to get bits and pieces of important files, emails and pictures. Then later after you've checked if you are sure all your valuable files are on Drive D you can wipe out your Drive C and reset it to its original start up point. It wouldn't hurt if you also made another backup of those irreplaceable files on a thumb drive. I made a copy of all my family pictures (over 5,000) put them on thumb drives and gave copies to each of my three kids. That way if my house gets hit by a meteor and burns down, those pictures will survive. Blessed are the paranoid, for they shall make backups.
