TIDAL?

Wow, I had no idea there were high quality music streaming services. Are these the only two available so far?

I'd love to hear some opinions on these.

Theres another called Orastream but as far as I know they are exclusively classical music. Im very impressed with Qobuz but getting a subscription required a email as they are not officially up and running in the states. That said they got back to me in about an hour after I sent my request and hooked me up via paypal.

I use Spotify that has about 20 Million Tracks. I have wondered about Qobuz....How many tracks in their library?  How much is their subscription per month? Can you read the material.... I thought it was in French?

Spotify is $10/mo. I highly recommend it! I've been madly in love with it since I started with it earlier this year.

so once I download the program I will get 20,000 different tracks of music to playback?

So I just signed up for the Tidal 7-day trial. Checking it out now.

Compared to Spotify, the sound is definitely cleaner and more three-dimensional.

I've always been happy with Spotify's sound quality and a lot of my favorite tunes display negligible difference on Tidal so far.

I did notice a dramatic quality jump when listening to Muse's "Endlessly". The vocals have much more audible reverb and the wide-spread synth sound that comes in with the chorus is much more detailed and spatialized.

I was still iffy up to this point, but then listening to Santana's "Europa" confirmed the FLAC superiority. The guitar has always sounded wonderfully "piercing" to me via Spotify, but Santana's trademark smoooooth sound sometimes sounded almost like a synth or sine wave. On Tidal, the guitar took on a good bit more personality. It felt more alive and not only piercing my senses, but seemingly, my soul. The final 30 seconds truly moved me.

I'm afraid I may have to double my monthly streaming music bill, ........but not yet. I think I will wait and let the service mature a bit. A good chunk of my favorite tunes are not available, and some that are are not available in "Hi-fi".

Spotify is also just a fantastic service. Maybe someday they will upgrade to FLAC quality for premium members??

So, how are you streaming Tidal. As far as Player or Browser....Connections to a DAC etc. etc. ?

Can you give me all your specifics?   Thanks.

Spotify is FAR superior to Pandora. I was using Pandora before and have all but forgotten about it since using Spotify. Much larger selection, higher quality, more options.....no contest. Well worth $10/mo.

I'm streaming it from my PC via HDMI directly to my Onkyo 3008(Burr-Brown DAC@24-bit-192khz) running my Klipsch RF-35 and RF-25 towers. I use both pairs of RF towers simultaneously via bi-amp terminals. I find that the 6" drivers of the RF-25s help to improve imaging, flesh out the upper-bass and add some overall warmth to the larger RF-35s. While listening to Tidal, I did experiment with each pair of speakers individually, but always went back to all four.

I'm very precise about my set-up. I use no equalization(Onkyo is always running in "Pure" mode) and spend hours upon hours perfecting room position, distance, toe-in(laser level!), etc...

Super simple.....

First off just google any of the services named above to find their url.

There is no comparison between mp3 and FLAC files (lossless) cd quality.

I quit using spottily ages ago so I can't comment on their service other than they're still streaming 320kbps.

As for both Qobuz and Tidal they both have a desktop player as well as mobile apps. Both offer airplay. I happen to stream from my laptop via Airfoil, because it allows me to be able to EQ. Airfoil streams to AppleTV, I come out of AppleTV via toslink to a Schitt Bifrost DAC w/ Uber upgrade and out to a Schitt PYS pre and on to my amp. Easy Peasy.

After the gtg I have been discussing options with a couple other forum members to use something like you had while visiting.

Bubo described a way I could get setup although I did not have my tape recorder going lol my brain is much to small to remember lol

I have been in an online music server frenzy now for about 9 days lol I have streamed online for over 5 years although only for live music

So hooking pc to receiver via Y cable what route is best for me to go? Thank you all for help getting my dense skull to learn something lol

Interesting. I've always wondered if that would work, and how it would sound. It's an expensive way (using half of each speakers capabilities) of getting the perfect sound!

I have an Onk 717 which also features Pure Mode.  I used it today for some brass music, then changed over to Stereo (L/R only).  Stereo was less piercing and more full than the Pure Audio mode.

At least for today.  I'm sure I'll change my mind tomorrow.

Oh, I just realized what you were saying. No,no. I still have the jumpers in place on both pairs of towers. They are both being fully driven.

Interesting idea, though! I, however, wouldn't see any benefit because the horns are the same size on both the 25s and 35s.

Grrr, after spending all morning with Tidal, the quality jump is becoming more and more apparent.

I've been using the android app and my klipsch R6 buds. Bass is soooo much cleaner, tighter, and more integrated. Far left/right, and out-of-phase sounds are 100x cleaner and more detailed.

The only things holding me back are the android app(a total mess compared to spotify), chrome web player is convoluted, the favorites/playlist system is almost broken, and of course the $20/mo.

I have a history of making ridiculous compromises for the sake of quality, but this is a tough one...
