Eldavis
I have in my van my first set of k horns. It's taken me 72 years to get here. It is also my first post on your forum. Thanks to you I bought them from your garage sale drove up and picked them up yesterday. I have heard so much about using low wattage amps for these since they are so efficient. All I have is a sansui 9090db and a ken wood 9100. What do you suggest. I am on my way home to listen to them.

tnr
Older, used Marantz gear from the 70's is a great match up.... Roger Roger, I see you have several Nakamichi amps. I had a PA7A-II I sold earlier this year that I wish I held on to. I wasn't using it and needed the money and got $925 for it. Are you using two PA-7II's for just your center channel? Do you have pics posted here somewhere of your systems? Must be one heck of a HT!

Moderators dtel Posted November 5, 2014 Moderators Share Posted November 5, 2014 Welcome and Congratulations, as others said I would try what you have already, I always liked the Sansui's but the kenwood should be good also, try both and use what you think sounds best. Don't forget sealed in the corner.

I use one Nakamichi PA-7II for the center channel, my second amp is actually a Nakamichi PA-7AII that I run the front right and left channel with. I am running two Nakamichi PA-7s for the other 4 channels, but intend to eventually trade up two two more Nakamichi PA-7IIs. Yes, I love the old Nakamichi gear, but thought suggesting $1,000 for a 25 year old used amp might scare him away!!! My amps are pictured under the thread Amp Porn and My TSCM speakers are pictured under the thread feeding the TSCM fever, but I purposefully have not posted pictures of the setup until I one day build on a dedicated room for my theatre. My gear is all kind of squished together at this point. The pictures of my amps is when I had 1 PA-7II and 3 PA-7s. The pictures of my TSCMs in when I had 11 of their Bass bins and most were still in my barn. Roger

Moderators dtel Posted November 5, 2014 Moderators Share Posted November 5, 2014 Has a Sansui but not Kenwood but was thinking that many of the receivers from back then were pretty good so I guessed the Kenwood would still be better than many today ? Maby not On Khorns he will find out quickly if it sounds bad.
joessportster
welcome and congrats on the horns agreed with others settle back and listen to current gear, then worry about getting different / better amps if you feel like you are missing something

If that was the Kenwood you brought over to my basement last week to listen to my K-horns . . . then start with that nice Kenwood. Then try the Sansui. Congrats on getting the black K-horns . . . I saw they were sold. If you need help getting them into the house tomorrow, give me a call. Well done!

Taz
I like the Sansui 90 90 's. But have not listened to the Kenwoods. Anxiously waiting the results of the shoot out. Currently using Marantz 2335 at idle. [volume] Congrats on the K Horns.
