Fish
Dread Zepp...sweet.....good one, Robert Plant is a big fan. I too am a big fan.....seen em a few times and got wild with em...really nice guys. Spirits in the Night and Statesboro Blues were two great examples. Also Blinded by the Light ,....Dreams...another good one, as a rule covers suck but sometimes they bring new listeners and make history. For me Foghat covers were great.....Terraplane Blues, one of my favorites from Robert Johnson. Edited December 22, 2014 by Fish
RT FAN
I always thought Jimmy Buffett did excellent covers of artists he appreciates, here are a few off the top of my head: Jesse Winchester's Rhumba Man James Taylor's Mexico Grateful Dead's Scarlet Begonias w/ Sonny Landreth on Slide Guy Clark's Boats to Build Jerry Jeff Walker's North East Texas Women. Linda Ronstadt doing Chuck Berry's Back in the USA Of course Aretha Franklin doing Otis Redding's Respect is an example of making the cover your own. Covers are a time honored tradition in music, you either have to play it straight or do a new twist on familiar material. Me, I love covers. Heck the Stones made a career out of covers! ChuckAb3
Any Patsy Cline cover by k.d. lang tends to be very good. I would tend to agree that most covers suck, but there are some very notable exceptions.Other exceptions include Johnny Cash's covers of Kristofferson songs as well as others. oldtimer
Just My Imagination by the Rolling Stones All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix Two great covers that immediately come to mind.
iRONic
That Molly Hatchet one kicks butt. Saw them in concert back in the day. I was lucky to see them multiple times in the late '70s in Syracuse. Danny Joe Brown was a monster front man.
iRONic
My favorite cover. David Bromberg does Jerry Jeff's "Mr. Bojangles."

Paducah Home Theater
As for Buffett, I think he ruined brown eyed girl and Mexico. However lesser known ones are nice, christmas island for example. Southern cross is an improvement as well.
