Hi

Have any members heard the Palladium P-312W subwoofer? I currently own an RSW-15 and SVS PB13ULTRA. I am curious to hear any opinions on how it stacks up with the rest of the market from an unbiased viewpoint. I have owned 20 or so subs and am always on the look out for something new.I would be willing to buy it if it can hold its own with my RSW-15 but am wondering if it will with its 12''.

Thank You!

I recently heard it. And while I think it's good, a majority of the money is for the finish itself. Your rsw-15 would hold it's own I'm betting and I'm sure the PB-13 ultra would beat it, I've owned a couple of them. They are beast subs.

The area of a circle is pi.r^2.
A 15" circle area is about 177 sq. in.
A 12" circle area is about 113 sq. in.

The RSW 15 has dual 15's with a surface area of 354 where the "3" 12's in the Palladium equal's 339 so the RSW 15 wins in surface area.

 RSW 15 specs:

Frequency Response: 19-120Hz (+-)3dB POWER HANDLING: FTC Rated Power: 650 watts continuous, 30-110Hz @ <1% THD / Dynamic Power*: 2400 watts @ <1% THD / *Dynamic power indicates the actual power this amplifier will deliver to the woofer under normal oper MAX CONTINUOUS OUTPUT: 121dB @ 30Hz 1/8 space, 1 meter

Palladium specs:

Frequency Response: 18-120Hz +/-3dB MAXIMUM ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: 123dB @ 30Hz 1/8 space, 1m AMPLIFIER: BASH digital hybrid AMPLIFIER POWER: FTC rated power: 1000 watts continuous @ <2% THD / Dynamic Power*: 2500 watts

Power output (FTC) appears to be a lot more with the Palladium but its rated at TWICE the distortion level, 2% vs 1% thd. Dynamic power is only 100 watts more for the Palladium at 2500 vs 2400 but again at twice the distortion level.

Just looking at the numbers I'm not convinced that the Palladium would be significantly better than the RSW-15.

Those numbers mean nothing without knowing the xmax of the drivers and drones.  You need to calculate volume, not area.

EDIT, someone just needs to get one of each and drag race them!

Hi Guy's

Thank you for posting your thoughts and insight! I have owned (3) RSW-15's (3) RSW-12's in the past 10 years and have always thought they sounded great all things considered. In my 5000 cubic foot room a single RSW-15 is very close +/- a few dbs of my SVS PB13ULTRA. If any of you are interested I can post some spl graphs from REW measurements in my room.I am a bit of an audio addict like most of you and at any given time I have had multiple sets of speakers/ receivers running in the same room for testing and the fun of it.I would love to see Klipsch come out with an RSW-15v.2. I may give a Seaton or Velodyne DD-18 a shot in the future.I called Klipsch Tech Support with a few questions on the P-312W and while they were very nice I would have liked some more info regarding xmax etc etc.

In my room the Klipsch RSW-15 has a punchier more lively sound with music. For HT the ULTRA has a more beastly weighty bottom end but can almost be a little heavy handed at times. I run a flat 75db on my subs for testing and listening. I had owned my first RSW-15 but sold it before I was using REW and got into involved testing. I later realized how it was actually better then I had given it credit for. I had read more than a few negative digs regarding the RSW-15's sub 30hz performance on various forums that just turned out to be not accurate in my room.I have come to think that more than a few people that leave negative comments have had no real world testing to back up their claims.I test all of the subs I buy in the exact same spot level matched and run REW to confirm what I think I hear.I had owned a Krell Resolution SUB1 which was the best I have heard for music. It has a 15'' woofer with a 750 watt class a/b amp.Interestingly enough i pulled the driver out to take a look at it and it was a JL Audio driver they had sourced for their sub.I have yet to own an 18'' and I would love to hear what it brings to the HT!

I may give a Seaton
great idea

or Velodyne DD-18
horrible idea.

seaton subs are monsters and would spank both subs you have. they are one of the best commercially available subs for music i have ever heard.

Now I get that the Seaton subs is a great idea, but a DD-18 a horrible idea?

Come on Scrappy, there is nothing "horrible" about a DD-18.  It is a wonderfully accurate and musical sub.  It's just not the monster HT sub that the Seaton is best known for.

Velodyne operates under a different business model than the ID companies and their products can be had significantly less than their MSRP.

Not saying that I would ever buy a DD18+, just that it shouldn't be discredited so quickly.

With that said, I'd take the Seaton over the big Velodyne;)

If goog look and performance is the goal, the Palladium fits the bill.  Now to the big dogs for HT, Seaton, JTR Cap 2400.  Of these two, the Seaton looks better and the JTR Cap may have a slight edge in HT.  Both will be great with music.  The only other subs a step up in performance will be DIY.  Get a design and hire a carpenter and good looks and performance can be had for less than any of the other mentioned options.
