45/2A3 tube amplifier for Khorns. Is power enough?

Recommended Posts

So, I have Klipshorn's purchased in 2000. I have a Marantz 2380 (I think) integrated amp from the 70's working fine. I have that feeding my Marantz 108 (I think) power amp. Its sounds great. I have a large room, 40X25 with pine floors and wonderful corners for the KHORNS.  However, I have read tones on getting tube amps because they sound richer and warmer (as I am told)  But a McIntosh 275 casts 7-8 thousand dollars.  Lately I have been reading a lot about Decware Zen single ended triodes.  They are supposed to sound great on an efficient speaker. The Khorns have a 105 db.  But then I get to reading in forums all this other stuff and other opinions and technical stuff and I get lost and confused.  I just want to get  tube amp that I can afford and is rated to sound excellent on my KHorns.  Can anyone give me some easy to under stand advice?

You will get two dozen different opinions about this. I have done almost everything except 45. Unless you sit fairly close and don’t listen very loud - that is not enough power. 35-40 watts at least.

why not purchase a Yamaha A-S1200

He's asking about tubes amps...

I've used 2a3 amps, 3.5 watts per channel. Fine for me with my LaScalas, but I would aim for 20-30 watts or a little more.
