dubai2000
Guys, I need help: much as I love my Khorns, whenever I play some large scale cassical music I find the impact of the big bass drum lacking. In my prevoius flat I used to combine the Khorns with an SVS sub - was a nice combination. Now the SVS is used upstairs and the Klipsch are in a different room. I have the chance to buy a second-hand SW-115 for a good price (and budget is obviously an issue ) - so: should I go for it or not? Your feedback will be appreciated - thanks in advance! tromprof
No chance of building a horn sub? An F-20 sub will be so much better with the K-horns and is not hard to build. It doesn't cost a lot either depending on the cost of 3 sheets of good plywood in your area. Then you would have horn goodness down to 17 HZ! derrickdj1
If you are not a DIY'er, go for it.
dubai2000
Thanks for your participation! I admit: even if I went the diy route - and I have no experience with woodwork - adding an amp and crossover (plus bass chassis, of course) will certainly be more expensive than getting the Klipsch sub mentioned above. I suppose I should have added that the intended use is for a 2-channel music system only. Wolfram
derrickdj1
A lot of people use subs with 2 channel setups. I do, lol.

Plate amps like the BASH 300 have the crossover built into them. Your main expense would be the amp, driver and plywood (or MDF). The end result would be much better sounding than anything you could buy pre-made at that price.
Trentster5172
I have KHorns. Just swapped twin SW-115's for R-115SW's. I thought the SW-115's were a little sluggish in the tight and firm bass area with my LaScalas and Khorns. My R-115SW's are a lot less boomy and way more tight. They are set just to grab anything below 40 hz. But usually I don't use them when listening to music unless it's something with an emphasis on the deep bass. I hope that helps. dubai2000
Mhhhh.amp with crossover included....smart. Just out of curioity: which current driver could one use with the F-20? @Trent, thanks for your input - I appreciate it. Wolfram
CECAA850
Everything you ever wanted to know about an F-20 but were afraid to ask. dubai2000
Well, I couldn't resist......the SW-115 has landed. I have only just hooked it up to my gear using the HF inputs.....no humm or any other nastiness.....relief. Of course I'll have to play around with crossover frequency and gain, but the first couple of songs sound quite promising......the Khorns seem to get the bass support I had been looking for.....looks like an interesting weekend is coming up..... . dubai2000
An update - put the Khorn/sub combo through its paces this morning - actually to such an extent that I had a very angry neighbour complaining at my front door - okay, I overdid it, I admit. But playing the final movement of Mahler's second symphony at full blast - it was impressive. What I find remarkable how easily the sub seems to integrate with the main speakers. I also understand that this sub is by no means the 'end-all' - but for the time being (and the money spent) I am not at all unhappy with its performance. And if I really try one day my hand at a DIY horn sub - this could go to the movie set-up.... . Wolfram
Schu
the 115 will move a lot of air... specially on moderately sized rooms. it can be slightly bloated, but it';s a fair solid subwoofer for not a lot of money. mine absolutely shakes the foundation.
