john
Hi,I just bought some heresy 2's and I have a Klipsch ksf c-5 center now and I have heard of the academy sounding better but the specs are quite the same other than exponential vs the tractrix horn.I have found an academy to purchase but I need some advice first....thank you
Klipschsonian
Welcome to the forum. I personally think both are a great options. If I had to choose, I would take the C-7 or the RC7 if you can find one. If not then the academy.
twk123
For how much an academy typically costs you will probably be better off finding a single Heresey as your center and you will then have perfect timbre match etc. It all depends on your setup regarding space limitations etc though. Here is one I found on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Single-Klipsch-Heresy-II-Speaker-Pedestal-Natural-Oak-Ex-Sound-USA-/361210526641?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5419d33bb1
Frzninvt
Specifications will not indicate to you how a speaker sounds. KSF-C5 is timbre matched to the Synergy Premiere Series. The Academy is timbre' matched to the Heresy II, Forte' & Chorus speakers. The Academy is a better choice with a third Heresy II being the best choice. There are few Academies for sale in the Garage Sale section. The C-7 or RC-7 are not even close in timbre' to the Heresy II. The KLF-C7 is matched to the Legend series speakers, and the RC-7 is matched to the reference line. john
The specs are really similar though...is it the horn that gives it a timber match?
twk123
Its a combination of things, typically you want the same tweeter design and similar woofer size. When you run white noise through the speakers it has the same "tone" across the front sound stage. If the tones are different then any front panning will draw your attention to the L/R speakers and away from the movie itself. Center channels are tricky with Klipsch products and there are few selections that actually match well. I run my setup with no Center myself until I can find a good match for my KG 5.5's. Frzninvt
The KG 2.5V is timbre matched to the KG 5.5's. It will keep up to a point.
twk123
The KG 2.5V is timbre matched to the KG 5.5's. It will keep up to a point. That will probably be my next speaker purchase. Most of my listening is music so I have been happy with the setup for now. Besides, now I have to add the KG 2.5v to the list along with recapping the KG5.5 crossovers, get a better TT cartridge, new plinth for my Thorens TT, and parts for a DIY subwoofer... Ebux
I too am running 5.5s for my fronts with a kv1 as a center and .5s as surrounds. I was thinking of upgrading to a kv3 for a center. Do you think the 2.5 would be better? Sorry I don't mean to high jack the thread.

Do you think the 2.5 would be better? Sorry I don't mean to high jack the thread. According to Klipsch's website the KV3 and the KG2.5 use the same woofers, but have a different tweeter. Spec wise they're pretty similar... more than I would have figured. But the tweeter in the KG5.5 is different than both, with a tractrix horn... vs an exponential cone in the center channels. They probably sound close enough alike that it would come down to personal preference and/or which one you could buy locally or cheapest. http://www.klipsch.com/kv-3/details http://www.klipsch.com/kg-2-5/details http://www.klipsch.com/kg-5-5/details
