akdave
So below is a link to a thread of the build out my room which is still very much a work in progress. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/145598-addition-theater-room-sound-insulation/ My hope is that in the coming weeks or so a projector is in the works (birthday). My question to those who have been down this path - my next step to improve/upgrade: would you start with a second sub or acoustic panels? My eventual goal is to build a frame and add an AT screen. For now I am going to experiment with the paint on variety to gauge the size I like. It's a cheap experiment. :-)
derrickdj1
Acoustic panel will not fix uneven bass in a room like two subs. Panels may help with reflexions and bass decay. You pick, lol.
Bryant0086
Since you are building a brand new room, I think you should be the official Klipsch forum lab rat and go Dolby Atmos !! In all seriousness, I linked back to your original post. That is simply one big room to fill with sound, so I would agree with derrickdj1. Your large room makes the one sub look really small, nervous and lonely. On a second note, I hope your Dad is doing well. Bryant
akdave
Thank you for the feedback. I think I'll put sub #2 next in line. As I was typing I was thinking that's what needs to happen as there are absolutely dead (or at least weak) spots in the room and it drives me crazy. Bryant thank you for your comment about dad. He passed away early November. He was able to meet our second son though who was born three weeks prior. Hug your families!
akdave
Oh! PS - a local dealer put up his first 4k projector demo (I'm waiting on that btw!) and they have an Atmos demo in that room as well. I'm totally doing that at some point - I figure I can false wall the front and with that run wires and add some decorative item (or panels) to hide wires along the ceiling - I think it will be relatively simple! Just need to pick speakers for that. I was pleasantly surprised with the Atmos demo!

I am so sorry to hear that, but I am happy he was able to meet his Grandson. Family is a WONDERFUL thing. Since you do have such a large room, you might think about a large sub. I'm just an old redneck metal-head, so a huge black box doesn't bother me. I might even leave it natural wood and put a moon and stars on it and tell folks it is my "inside outhouse." Don't know how it would work for you, but if you could do a horn loaded sub with an efficient driver, it would take less power yet give some big boom. akdave
You bring up an interesting idea. I had simply planned on adding a second SW 115 to the other side of the room, but the horn loaded would certainly go well with the "hide it behind the curtain" plan of the future. Specific ideas or models there? Builds? Thank you for the time and feedback. My room is appx 23x22. (minus furnace room in the back left corner facing the screen). akdave
My ignorance knows little bounds so I had to do some looking after you mentioned this. A KPT-1802 is a tempting idea! Man this hobby can get completely out of control quickly.
twistedcrankcammer
akdave, How much are you willing to spend on a horn loaded sub and amp, plus how big a footprint are you willing to live with are your main concerns. Talk to Carl and give him these parameters and I am sure he can make some suggestions for you. Roger
twistedcrankcammer
You wont need your old sub with a KPT-1802 so you could recoup some of your investment. Roger
akdave
Roger, you know I haven't given it that much thought yet. So over time I'd be willing to save and spend a fair amount. I have no concept of what these horn loadeds cost. Is it still beneficial to try to pair them up in a room my size? Still plenty of Q&A for me - but I'm wide open to information! I live in Alaska so it's unlikely that I'll be running over to someone's place for a demo. So I welcome subjective descriptions to try to measure the difference in performance over two 15" subs, etc. I figure it would be a worthy replacement, but I'm very new to the horn loaded idea. I'll have to do some reading! Thanks in advance for any insights! Edited February 23, 2015 by akdave
