DizRotus
Gone at 94. I'm old enough to remember him as part of The Tonight Show Band. I must confess, I thought he passed years ago.

billybob
RIP Heard part of an interview past weekend about Mr. Terry's death. Really sounded like the blues to me. Using a funnel for a trombone piece when young man. Neighbors bought him a trombone so he would let them rest at night. Not exactly that but close. Inspiration for old age musicians and music as an occupation, or pursuit of the art. Young are still learning from the gentleman. Very knowledgeable about his craft they were saying. DizRotus
Miles Davis, four years younger, said he looked up to Clark Terry. By all accounts, he was a fine person, as well as a world class jazz trumpeter. It's refreshing to see a legendary musician live into his (or her, McPartlin) nineties. Too many were the victims of drugs (Davis, Hendrix, Joplin, Winehouse, Morrison, et al), airplanes (Holly, Valens, Vaughn, Croce, et al) or both (Nelson). Mallette
Clark was awesome. He came to my junior high school and did a band clinic when I was in the 8th grade. Total gentleman. Few knew who he was, but I knew him from the Tonight Show Orchestra and was already a fan. He played a mouthpiece better than any of us could play a horn. oldtimer
Grew up listening to his work. That's great you had some face time with him Dave! Of the Tonight Show band I had the privilege of time with Shaughnessy and Severinsen.
Mallette
Severinson was first chair, Clark second, in the Skitch Henderson Tonight Show band. Guess I should dig up my LP and give it a spin in his honor. Dave Edited February 24, 2015 by Mallette
RCB1725
I think the good Lord had a chair awaiting Clark. Has to be one hell of a Big Band now that hes arrived. Thanks for the memories and the music.
