Nordschleife
Looking for more Forum members with mid-1960's Klipschorns. Mine are from 1965, I feel lucky to have them at all! I'd like to understand the changes to the midrange horn, tweeters & woofer in the 1960's time frame. PM me or post to this thread. Thanks, Andy
WMcD
Look here and particularly the timeline. http://www.klipsch.com/klipschorn-history So you'd have some of the first K-400. I seem to recall there was a change in the process of making the metal K-400, like a new mold. This was before the change to the K-401. Maybe someone here can speak to the mold thing. LarryC
Some time, later on I think, Klipsch began flush-mounting the K-77 tweeters. That was done by enlarging the rectangular opening for the tweeter, installing Z-mount brackets which stepped out the tweeters and made their fronts more or less flush with the midrange front flange. This apparently improved the blend and smoothness of the MR-tweeter interface, as I understand it. It had some of that effect on mine. Scroll down about half-way here to see examples: http://www.critesspeakers.com/klipsch_tweeters.html Edited February 28, 2015 by LarryC
sheltie dave
I have 1963/64 Khorns, with Jensen P15LL woofers, and the new K400s. By 1965 k400s were in their third year.
Nordschleife
Thank you for your replies, very helpful. Dave, that's very interesting re: the K-400s. Are they date-stamped somewhere? I wonder when they switched away from the Jensen P15LL's also... Thanks, Andy

WMcD
There is information on K-Horn history here. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/46291-article-on-the-k-horn-and-interview/?hl=%2Bweekend+%2Breading In years far past I posted "weekend reading." It was a collection of articles. Now I can only refer people to articles I posted long ago -- PWK is not writing any more, sadly. If you are new around here you can use the advanced search (the little gear icon) to search for "weekend reading" posted by me. WMcD
