Oppo 103 owners...Speaker config question

As you know, there are several configuration choices for speakers on this machine, including LT/RT, Stereo, etc.  My question: is there still channel separation in the LT/RT mode, or is this more of a L/R mono mode?  The owners manual is not very clear.  Thanks.

OK, I get it.....But here's another question...If the source is CD, say, a classic Santana disk, would the output of LT/RT and Stereo be the same?  Or is there some other funky manipulation going on prior to the LT/RT output?

This is what I'm trying to get to....I have the FR and FL outputs from the 103 out to a vintage Pioneer SX-1250 receiver (obviously no sub output).  I want to incorporate a sub into my 2 channel setup with my Belles and Chorus II's.

If I set the 103 to Stereo mode, there will be no sub output from the 103.  If I set it to LT/RT, there is a sub output.  If I then set the speaker sizes to small for FR and FL, I can then use the bass management of the 103.  I think....correct?  Or is there a better way?   Will the LT/RT mode mix properly with the sub output?   BTW, I do not do any Home Theater surround, at all.

Figuring out the new toy?

No, actually trying to get the old toy configured properly.  i picked up a Velodyne 15 inch sub the other day that someone gave me because it "didn't work"....guess what?  Took the panel off the back, found the fuse, and....voila!!  Got me thinking about putting subs in the mix again, (I have 3 and never use them...).  So that's why I'm asking questions about the Oppo.  Tried doing some searches on the web of course, and it's a nightmare....The Oppo is hugely capable, but I only do 2 channel, so a lot of it's capabilities are wasted on me.  I really only take advantage of the video processing and a little of the audio features.

I don't "need" the subs hooked in with the Belles and Chorus II's, I just want to experiment with it a bit.....

OK, easy peazy. Set the Oppo for stereo, then hook up the Velodyne to either the left or right speaker cable. I'm not sure if your Velodyne has speaker inputs but if it does, you are done. If not, post that up and I'll give you the second way to do it.

I am frequently mistaken for a rock....so I don't understand what you mean here....the left and right outputs from the Oppo go to the receiver, and the speaker cables to....the speakers....

The Oppo has a sub output of course, but in Stereo, it does not function.  The Velodyne has both inputs and output connections.

So on the 103 does it not let you select a subwoofer in the speaker configurations?

Using the Multi-Channel Analog Outputs in a Stereo Configuration

Unlike the BDP-105, the BDP-103 does not have a set of dedicated stereo RCA outputs. However, the FL and FR terminals of the 7.1 channel analog output section can be programmed to function as a dedicated stereo output.

1. Go to the Setup Menu and select Audio Processing.

2. Select Speaker Configuration.

3. Press either the right or left arrow button until Down Mix is highlighted.

4. From the list of options, select Stereo.

Once this setting is selected, audio from 2-channel sources will be output normally through the FL and FR terminals, and audio from multi-channel sources will be downmixed to stereo and output through the FL and FR terminals.

Note: this setting only affects audio through the analog outputs; you will still be able to output multi-channel audio via HDMI.

You'll be using the speaker cable output (from the amp) as the signal source for your sub. Just parallel a second set of speaker wires to the speaker input connections on the sub. Some people think this is the best way to drive a sub and I agree. So you'll hook your speakers up as normal and you will run another set of speaker cables to the sub. You just need one set because most all bass is mixed into both channels. download a Velodyne manual if you are still confused.

Using a 105, but using it in Stereo mode.

I'm sure if you send OPPO an email, they'll clear it up for you asap.
