ZEUS121996 Posted March 9, 2015 Share Posted March 9, 2015 So I picked these up on Saturday and with the weather being nice decided to break them down out side. On the woofers is a bluish film that makes everything stick to it. Almost like a spray adhesive that never dried. Attached are the cabs broke down and one woofer with the blue glue. Frzninvt Posted March 9, 2015 Share Posted March 9, 2015 That is damping fluid on the woofer, they came from the factory that way. Guessing that is a CTS manufactured woofer as I had a pair of LWE-I's (Louis Erath) speakers that had the same type fluid on the woofer surrounds. a/d/s (analog and digital systems) now defunct used the same fluid on their textile dome tweeter. It was one of the best tweeters that they made but everything adheres to the stuff. I would not try to take it off you will do more harm than good. ZEUS121996 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Share Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Decorators are plain as hell, no grill, no trim, nada Verticals are the way the speaker is laid out, the idea was to put the tweeter in a position you could either stand the speaker up or lay it down and the tweeter would still be up. It was suppose to fit into bookcases or as the name implies in a corner or against a wall. TY Mark Colter's comments are not posted in this thread. I assume you want a specific color or you want the two cones to match? Sure you can spray a light coat of color on your cones it is not going to have any negative impact but you must mask the suspension and not get any paint on those. Hope that helps. ZEUS121996 Posted March 10, 2015 Author Share Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) In Colters thread he spray painted the entire woofer including the suspension with 3 coats using a flexible vinyl paint from SEM for cars. He told me he has had no problems with the performance of the woofers. The plan was to do some bondo work, spray paint the woofers, fronts and backs satin black, veneer in walnut to match my Belles and add grills. But after seeing Budmans Decorators with raw birch faces he has me rethinking the plan. Not good. Now, i used a medium stiff paint brush and it cleaned out the surround OK but they still look ratty. In between I worked on cleaning up the woofers so I could shoot them with some paint. He decided he wanted to take a pic of both woofers and proceeded to drop his phone into the woofer that was sprayed. I'm guessing this is going to need to be re-coned.
