Received the LCD-2s today and plugged them into the Oppo BDP-105. Listened to a couple of tracks of DSOTM.....NOT impressed at all compared to the NBS/VRD/Belles. I certainly hope the Schitt headphone amp due in tomorrow changes this or this combo will be gone!

I wouldnt hold out a lot of hope on that... if it were a ha-2 oppo unit, I might have more faith.

If you aren't satisfied withthe results, I might be in trying out a used pair of lcd-2's .

Don't they need some break in?

I tend to not believe in break-in of things electronic or wires but then the headphone thing is all new to me. The dealer I bought them from stated that they were on the bench breaking in when I contacted them to see if any were in stock.

Observations:

1. They are BIG and a bit heavy

2. Plugged directly into the Oppo -105 I was not impressed, in fact I was very much regretting the spending $$$$

3. On a lark I brought them to work with me along with my iPAD to see if there was any way the combo would even work. It worked quite well, much better than the Oppo combo.

4. When I got home from work there was some Schiit on my front porch. I found some 1960 Mullards in my stash so I plugged them in and fired that puppy up.

I have the Oppo plugged in to the NBS and the 'phone amp plugged into the Record Out of the NBS (power off on the NBS). I listened to a few CDs and then connected my external drive to the Oppo and found a Rat Shack extension cord for the 'phones so I could get to the couch. Three hours later the wife was checking to see if I was alive as I had not moved.   GREAT SOUNDS.

Please don't tell me that aftermarket headphone cables really improve the sound; they are much too expensive and I need about a 12 footer.

Relax.  They don't.

I've only used Rat Shack extension cables.  Work fine for me.  Grado makes a 10 or 15 footer that was $25 or something reasonable a few years ago.  Or maybe a bit more.  Now $45.95 direct.    Old school 1/4"  I use 1/8" Rat Shacks and still have a coiled cable and made my own extension years ago from cable from RS that I think I still have.

Cool.  Our collection keeps growing.  Hope that an in ear with bendable wire remains in the lineup.  The A5i is extremely easy to use and the wire makes it much better for use as a phone headset or for exercise IMVHO.  So much easier to use than the Custom models.  As a phone headset can leave loose so can hear the surroundings or somewhat loose when exercising.  Yeah the bass suffers without a good seal but there are times one needs to hear what's going on.  The a5i makes a great phone headset.

So pretty wood coming in over ear or on ear, closed or open back?   Something other than dynamic drivers?

Multiple armature IEMs such way as the Custom 3 would probably do very well.  Or the rumored pro audio in ear monitors might make it to market?  I think 2, 3, and 5 way were being prototyped.

How about professional DJ models?  Add a little mic tube to the Status (also discontinued and you'd have great DJ 'phones).

So when will the new models be available to demo at HQ?

I'm always available for beta testing.   :)

Custom 2, Image X10, A5i, and even Status, in white, used for yard and desk work.  In ears usually under Pro Ears.  No matter how tight the seal our 100 db + lawn tractor, string trimmer, and even relatively quiet push mower are still too loud.  Cables and phones take quite a beating at my desk.  Busted cable on first day at work with the Status.    Image X5 and X7 on the way at recent closeout sales at Woot and Newegg.   :D   And a second pair of white Status.  Black too hot for mobile music in the sun.
