Fastlane Audio Cornscala Project started.

Recommended Posts

I asked Dave for some help shoehorning his horns into a stock Cornscala. As I'm planning for this to be my last speaker for a bit, I'm going all out.

Dave wasn’t able to fit his bigger tweeter horn into a stock cab, but I will be able to use his Eliptrac400 and the Eliptrac tweeter.

Thoughts on drivers or crossovers and drivers?

My standard recipe is Eliptrac 400/ B&C DE85tn, Eliptrac tweeter and the Dayton Audio D250P-8 1" Polyimide Driver. Woofer is going to be Eminence Kappa 15C. I own the horns and baffles. Additionally I won the Dayton driver so my tweeter is probably set. The mid range needs to fit in a stockish cab. B&C DE85tn vs Eminence PSD:3006-8 ?

Budget makes me want to go to a ALK Cornscalawal but my guts makes me think AP12-500 or 600 and then a ES5800 several months later.

Regarding cabinet build, I’m hoping to use biscuits or do you guys think its overkill?

I so didnt realize that the baffle is backwards. The front is recessed to allow for the woofer to be face mounted yet with sit flush to the baffle. (Going for the Klipsch Cornwall clone look).

I did a bonehead move and stratched one of my cornwalls. I had my friend who is a cabinet finisher come repair... cant even tell it happend and he finished the bafle in black satin and repainted the horn to match... all that is left ont he bafle side is geting the tweeters from dave and having them painted to match.

As an aside, I plan to use the same dampening klipsch used (ebay). Should I paint the inside of the cabinets too? I wonder if sealing them has an acustic impact?

Just did a bit of prep work... Glued the rear brace for the woofer on. Dave was kind enough recess the woofer so it will sit flush to the face.

I like face mounting as the woofer rides on its shoulder. The rear bracing is awesome. I used the nuts and bolts to act like claps while it drys. I used extra glue to force into any opening/seal the ring to the back of the motor board. Ill prob paint to give a clean look inside and out.

Interesting project, there are "Klonwall" DIY kits popping up from Germany over here in NL.

After hearing some systems that use a big horn for mids, I have my doubts about the Khorn's original K-400 which is so small in comparison...

Couldn't resist buying a set of Altec 511B's for pocket money when they were put up for sale local, just to fiddle around a bit.

Love the drivers beeing flush with the motorboard; always makes for a more professional look.

The sides, top and bottom will be M. Walnut. Lower part of inside will be stained black, Baffle and back will black.

Ive had the horns stained same color as baffle. Im hoping for a perfect color match/ bending in.

I think Ive decided on the B&C 750tn-16ohm... bigger and more expensive, but should be a good choice.

Just spoke with Al. He says I can go Ap12-350 if I wanted, but that a AP12-500 was the prob best choice.

Im debating on trying the AP15-6000 or the ES5800... I know the ES network and will prob lean that way.

If I remember correctly the Kappa pro can be used in must smaller cabs without many ill effects. That said, The vol was increased ever so slightly to bal against the mid horn size. Id have to look at my bass box calualtions.
