marems
Looking to purchase a turntable in the $200-$400 range. What are some brands to look into?

Mallette
Anyone have experience with the pro-ject carbon table?? None, but the reviews are pretty sterling on price/performance. However, these guys are getting a LOT of raves from price/performance at 179.00.

jimjimbo
Personally, in that price range I would buy new such as the Music Hall or the Pro-Ject Carbon.
marems
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! The orbit looks interesting, and the carbon looks the best so far.
justinsweber
I've had the MMF and think it better than the pro-ject debut. I bought a debut and was really unimpressed. I returned and got the new pioneer Dj table plx1000 and love it. ~600. I like the idea of buying new for a table and would strongly suggest. I didnt like the debut but auditioned the carbon and thought it was awesome. They make a carbon with speed control and a acrylic player for 600 that's a really value too. Marvel
I hadn't realized that Pioneer had a table out that is so similar to the SL1200 model history. Nice! I need a headshell and cart for my SL1200MkII... Then again, I've not even been listening to music much lately (since I sold my LaScalas... music isn't the same ) I was seriously looking at the uturn tables. Rocko81
I really dig my JVC QL-A7. Really an underrated TT. IMO it blows away the Marantz TT's of the same era. It's vintage and has endless adjustments.

Bubo
Depends on the features you want. Auto start and drop Auto pick up Manual Start and drop and auto pick up and off Manual start and finish Belt vs direct drive How the arm is mounted, gimble How tracking and weight are adjusted, and how accurate. Weight of the platter, aka flywheel Dust cover, hinged or not etc etc.
