Windows 10 Desires

All I am looking for in Windows 10 is to make "permissions" an option with no meaning none and to create a new section entitled "Old Hardware and Application Assimilation".

Then I would be happy. It is inconceivable to me why old hardware and drivers cannot be made to function in new systems starting with XP with driver modifications and firmware modifications.

Yeah, I know it can't be done. That's what they all say. My alternative is to spend another 6 grand to update three computers to assimilate Windows 10.

Drivers are the responsibility of the hardware manufacturers. There are third party software engineering firms they can hire to write the drivers if desired. The reason they might not is to allow their product to become obsolete so the consumer is forced to upgrade to a newer version. Also, they have made the profit on those devices already. If they incur a new cost to update drivers, where will they get the money to do it from? The answer is, cut into the profit margin of the current version of the device. I know Microsoft wants the newest version of their operating system to support all of the hardware on the planet, but that too becomes more costly as they add more and more obsolete hardware to the certified list. It seems to me that if the drivers were written to use the Microsoft engine, there wouldn't be an issue. Many drivers write directly to hardware, bypassing Windows. Drivers written with the WDK are compliant, and those drivers would tend to need less work for the manufacturer to update.

This was the original intent of the sepcs for writing Windows programs. MS would provide all the hooks into the OS. That's what they did back in the day for MSDOS, and Hercules came out with their video card that operated faster by working around MSDOS and writing directly to memory, etc. Originally, a third party program would be a single executable, and everything else was handled by MS. Nice concept, but everyone else thinks they can do better (which is true, given the overhead required to do it the MS way), so now we have fiels all over the hard drive and registry entries placed who knows where.

As much as I dislike Apple, almost all programs that are installed on an Apple computer, look like one file, but are actually a bundle of all the files needed to run the program. Makes for a clean install and a clean uninstall (most Windows programs don't cleanly get rid of everything when uninstalling and MS is also one of the offenders)
