Why does the green light stay on?

HI, I'm new and all... sure was a pain trying to answer the registration question (copper, really)?

First I write orange, nope must be something else then, so the box my speakers came in have a lot of blue so.... nope wrong answer. So now I try green since even in the middle of the night in total darkness I see this green light starring at me. I had to go to the GEAR section and noticed a copper t-shirt so I tried that, yay! So now 20 minutes later here I am trying to find the answer to a simple question.

Where is the on/off switch for my Promedia 2.1 speakers... or does that green light stay on for eternity?... and if so, why?

Is this another job for my black electrical tape?

You all have a great day... looking forward to any replies.

I think it depends on which version of them you have.

I have three different sets.

On my older set (the 'original' version I think) the switch is on the woofer cabinet.

On my newer sets, as best I can tell, there is NO switch.  Zero/nada

I'm guessing they think it's going to be plugged into a power strip or something.

I plugged mine into the switched outlet so the light switch would control it.

I have a 4 channel and sub setup that has a power switch and I can't remember if it goes to red when the switch is off.  My much newer 2 channel with sub has green light that stays on all the time too.  Break out the tape

Modern Promedia setups do not have an on/off/auto switch of any kind. The indicator is designed to indicate power is running to the unit - that's all. No other colors.

Thank you for all the replies guys.... a little piece of black electrical tape will fix that annoyance.

  • 2 weeks later...

This speaker system is intended to be left on 24/7. If you turn it on and off every single day, then it will either die prematurely on you, or start giving you other problems. The only time it should be turned off is if you won't be using it for an extended period of time - such as a 1+ week vacation.

The LED bothered me too, so I covered it in electrical tape.

Depends on which version you have. When I'm listening to it its turned on and when I'm not listening to it its turned off. Have the original manufactured model and never had an issue turning it on or off. Still going strong after all these years.

I'm listening to ProMedia 2.1 speakers in nearfield while toiling at the computer.  I love mine.

When I put the same question to the forums some years ago, a Klipsch employee said there is no on/off switch.  I was assured the amp, when receving no signal, uses approximately as much energy as a nite-lite.  In any case, my electric bills show no ill effect and the speakers and amp soldier on.  Enjoy them.  Put black tape over the green light if it bothers you.
