LarryC
Right now on C-SPAN 2, Rand Paul has been holding forth on the NSA spying program, DEA home invasions, you name it. It's been magnificent. Other senators like Joe Manchin occasionally step in. I don't have a link, because it's been going on for several hours, but like very much what RP is saying and hope it has an effect on Congress. Hm, is Rand P a great national statesman?

I sincerely apologize my friend for glossing over it. I was in Waco Sunday and Monday on a police shooting and I have been scrambling ever since. So you physicians really stick together. What is your view on whether medical schools should require an undergraduate degree as a requirement. I always assumed that was the case, at least under the modern concept of medical school, last 50 or 100 years, whatever it is considered to be. Was completely surprised when I learned that Duke Medical School did not have that requirment when our current speaker was accepted. LarryC
So you physicians really stick together. Was completely surprised when I learned that Duke Medical School did not have that requirment when our current speaker was accepted. I'm pretty far removed from simpatico-ness with doctors, since I was in non-clinical public service for my entire career. But I do think we tend to think in similar, perhaps not fully recognized ways. Same is probably true for lawyers (your comment brought that to mind!). IMO, docs tend to be analytical outside the usual political or philosophical bounds and less adversarial, since that's not the business we're in. I recall AAMC statistics, perhaps a decade ago, that the % of medical school entrants without a bachelor's degree was EDIT: very low, just a few percent, but not zero. So it stands to reason that a few medical schools either don't have a rigid BA prerequisite, or give their admissions committees the latitude to decide to admit such students on a case by case basis. I think medical schools should require a BA or an equivalent level of education for admission, because doctors, like lawyers, often have leadership roles as well as positions, not only within their profession, but within society. Higher levels of education will enhance performance in those roles. Society would be short-changed by having politically or philosophically dumbed-down medical or legal leadership AND a body of followers who choose them and follow their leadership. That said, I am VERY unimpressed with Rep. Tom Price and one or two others. I'm not sure they could survive in practice. I had mixed feelings about Tom Coburn. I thought Rand P was way off base in his expressed views about whether shop owners could discriminate, but has been showing exceptional vision these days IMO. I consider those to be my personal opinions based on knowledge and philosophy, not on their profession. Edited May 21, 2015 by LarryC

It was because of the biker incident that I was there, several officers discharged their weapons. I can't say much more than that at this point. Moderators Travis In Austin Posted May 21, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 21, 2015 So how long did Senator Paul last night? I watched until about 10 pm central time last night. He was getting help with other Senators asking him questions, but you stilk cannot sit down or have restroom break, but you can stretch and lean against desk off camera. The statements of the other senators, like Coons, Manchin, and Mike Lee, were outstanding and very high in eloquence IMO.
