Chris A
Dr. John Nash (A Beautiful Mind) has been killed in a car crash in New Jersey along with his wife, Alica. He was 86. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Forbes_Nash,_Jr. What a story--and a life. Nash equilibrium in game theory has changed the world. See the "trillion dollar bet". Moderators Travis In Austin Posted May 25, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 25, 2015 A TRUE genius. Did anyone read the book A Beautiful Mind? I always wanted to but have not heard any thoughts on it. I really liked the movie. Travis
Moderators Travis In Austin Posted May 25, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 25, 2015 From Wkipedia: Nash's adviser and former CIT professor Richard Duffin wrote a letter of recommendation for graduate school consisting of a single sentence: "This man is a genius."[8] Nash was accepted by Harvard University, but the chairman of the mathematics department of Princeton, Solomon Lefschetz, offered him the John S. Kennedy fellowship, which was enough to convince Nash that Princeton valued him more.[9] Nash also considered Princeton more favorably because of its location closer to his family in Bluefield.[7] He went to Princeton, where he worked on his equilibrium theory, later known as the Nash equilibrium. DizRotus
RIP My wife will be saddened and interested by the fact that they were in a taxi and probably not wearing seat belts. She ALWAYS digs out the belts in cabs, airport shuttles and the like. Recall when the Detroit Red Wings had the limo crash after a Stanley Cup celebration. Had they been wearing seatbelts, a tragedy would have been averted.
moray james
RIP to John and Alicia. Some friends got together (a group of 8) on Wednesday and watched the movie and talked about Nash after.
