mike stehr
I bought some nice female RCA jacks...I'm used to having a washer with a ground tab on the jacks for the shell. These have no washer, just a slot on the body. Has anyone used this type of jack and have any idea how to attach a ground wire to the body? The only thing I can think of doing, is hooking the wire in the slot and wrapping the wire around the body before soldering. These are a PTP type of jack. Guest David H
You could get non insulated crimp on eyelets.
babadono
Who makes those? Or where did you get them? I agree it is hard to understand what the intention was/is for the ground connection.
mike stehr
Who makes those? Or where did you get them? I agree it is hard to understand what the intention was/is for the ground connection. They are Connex, the house brand for PartsConnexion. Other brands like Cardas, WBT, etc, have the same type of jacks. Some have two slots on the back of the jack. I bought them without paying much attention to how they are grounded. I figured I could net search on how they are grounded...like a image of these types of jacks in a completed circuit/unit. Not much luck with that, although I haven't really tried that hard. I'm using ring terminals like Dave brought up...Thanks Dave...dunno why I didn't figure that out. These jacks load from the back of the panel, with a screw on cap from the front. So...ring terminal, insulator, panel, insulator, and cap. Don Richard
Can the insulated washers be replaced by metal ones? The shell will then ground @ the chassis.
No.4
This is how I attached the ground to these RCAs. I soldered directly to the groove cut into the body of the Jack. I used chipquik flux though, which will allow solder to stick to anything! Sorry for the blurry pics but I didn't want to pull my pre all the way out of my rack. Also if you have thick panels you can use brass nuts meant for lamps in the place of the ones that are supplied with the jacks.
