suggestions for surround setup

I know I am late in the game for any chance of getting RB81II's new. As of now I have two pair of RS52IIs new in the box. But in the future I will be buying RF7II package. Setting up room for 9.1.6 and will need something for rear surrounds.  3 pair of CDT 5800's for ceiling speakers. Was wondering if its better to get RS62!!s for side surrounds ( new ones coming in July from what I was told). And using 52's for rears and front surrounds. or buy a pair of RB61IIs for rear surrounds and use the two sets of 52s for the side surrounds. Suggestions?

quick breakdown:

Option 1:  2 pair RS52's for side & front side surrounds. RB61II's for rear surrounds

Option 2: RS52's for front surrounds and rear surrounds. RS62's for side surrounds.

Room will be mostly movies- but also surround music from time to time.

thanks

How far in the future are the 7ii's coming?

well it depends. If I go with the RB61's for back surrounds then I have a bit more time I think. If I go with RS62's as side surrounds then depending how fast they start to sell I may have to purchase the whole system a bit sooner ( I save money on the surrounds if buying with whole system).

Also to note-the rear surrounds will be about 13-14ft from MLP. and about 7ft. or so from second row of seating. not sure this is a factor deciding between the to options.

If I went with the RB61's then I would most like pull the trigger now on them- since stock is dwindling fast, but they are still available for a decent price. I'm glad they are front ported. gives be more options as to placement in that area.

Kman,

If you are going to use the RS-62II's as side surrounds, then the the RB-61II's will be just about perfect.  All 6.5 inch woofers around the sides and rear should be pretty seamless.

thats just it. If I go with the 61's for rears than I would use the 52's I already have for both sets of side surrounds. I bought them new a while ago ( still in the box). If not then I would have to mix the  exsisting 52's with the 62's ( 52's on wides and rears. 62's on side). So I guess that was my original question. which setup would work the best. I guess it would be ok to mix either of these combinations. Just want to make sure I utilize the best combination.  I don't want to use 52's and RB51's because the 51's are rear ported and wouldn't work out in the location I have planned.

Either of your choices will work just fine.  Youthman had the RS-35's, then RS-52's, then RS-62's.  Each change was an improvement but only incremental.

The RS-52's will mate very well with the RB-61II's, as well as the with RS-62's.  Or for that matter, 52's with 62's.

good to know. I guess the big question is then. Monopole versus Bipole? ( not sure exactly what to call the 52's) would be best for rear surrounds.

Since you're trying to do Atmos, the Atmos recommendations are to have monopoles at the same height as your mains, preferably the same speakers.  Used to everybody mounted the bipoles 2-3' higher than their heads on the wall to achieve height, but Atmos does that now.  Atmos apparently likes direct radiating speakers that can dig down low, apparently they send more powerful full range signals to them.

wow- didn't expect the 61's to be so much beefier than the 51's I have. Should make for nice rear surrounds.  Now it makes me want to get the RS-62II's for sides even more now.  If I had known the home reno/addition would be taking this long I wouldn't have bought the 52's so early just to have them sit in the boxes for months on end.

They are much larger than 52's.

Are your RS-52II's still boxed up?

Can you afford to discount them a little bit so a forum member would buy yours over new somewhere else?  Then use that $$$ towards a pair of 62II's?

yes the 52's are still boxed up. Never used them. I did open the boxes just to inspect them ( I do that with everything just incase). I paid $600 a pair for them. I guess I could go down a bit on price, but its tough when you start to add in shipping costs. Thats what I get for jumping the gun to soon.

The RS-52II's will have no problem mating or keeping up with your RB-61II's.

Now if it is an aesthetics thing, I get that with matching 6.5 inch woofers.  Otherwise the 52II's will sound great with the 61II's.

I'm sure they will be fine. but as you know we all get the "what if" bug. The never ending trading in & up for the next thing.

I get what you are saying, but for some reason I have resisted.  I bought my RS-35's from Youthman about 3 years ago and since then have had local opportunities to "upgrade" to black RS-52's(also Youthman's), cherry RS-52's, and RS-62's(also Youthman's).  All were offered at hard to pass up prices and very tempting but I just did not budge.  I really was(am) happy with the RS-35's and how they mate up with my RF-63/RC-64 combo.
